    1. HUBBARD
    2. Eri HUBBARD DAY was the son of Russel DAY and Lovinia HUBBARD. Lovinia according to Edward Day genealogy was the daughter of Elijah HUBBARD (1769-1815) and Phebe JOHNSON. Lovinia was born in Burlington Flats, NY (now VT?). She was the granddaughter of John HUBBARD (of Chatham, CT -now Middlesex?) and Anna. John had a cousin SETH HUBBARD and a brother Ezra HUBBARD, per Edward DAY. The Ashtbula Genelogical Newsletter had a story about a Seth Hubbard. Eri was married in Austinburg, Ashtabula in 1842. Leafing through the AAA book planning a trip east, I came across Hubbard House and stopped there last April about this time. A hugh genealogy was on the wall. Alas, I have been unable to connect with this station on the underground railroad. So much more my distress to learn that Harriet BROCKWAY (Eri's bride) through the Huntley and DeWolfe line was connected with an owner of the Amistad..... Claudia Day Grand Rapids, Michigan

    2. I am searching for any and all information that I can find on Elroy Gowen. I believe that his middle name was Horace and that he was born in Craftsbury Vermont in 1887. He married Maude Alice Estelle. Year and place of marriage unknown. It is believed that they lived in Hardwick Vermont and had 6 children: Leah Gowen, (b.1912), Lincoln Elroy Gowen (b.1913) Wayne Gowen(b.?) (died as a child) Max Gowen(b.1915) Guy William Gowen(b1919) and Winola Gowen. From hardwick they moved to Milton Vermont and Elroy was believed to be in business with a gentleman named John S. Barr and they owned the General Store in town. From here they moved to Concord New Hampshire. Elroy left the family after being in New Hampshire for about a year, and no one ever heard form him again. It is rumored that he went back to Vermont and is buried in a paupers grave some where in the state. Elroy would be my Great Grandfather. If any one has any information or knowledge of my family in Vermont and would be willing to pass it along to me would be greatly appreciated. I am planning a trip to Vermont but it probably won't be until this summer. Thank you in advance Laurie Gowen

    1. NASH - ROUSE in Jericho
    2. Ted White
    3. Hi - My family is from western NY, but I can trace my roots to an Oliver ROUSE and a Sophia NASH from JERICHO, VT. Census documents in NY suggest that SOPHIA NASH was born around 1794 in JERICHO. Another NASH researcher has documented a SOPHIA NASH born on February 22, 1789 in JERICHO, VT to CALEB NASH and RACHEL NASH. and can trace this Sophia NASH back another 4 - 6 generations. I would love to know if my Sophia Nash and the other Sophia Nash are one and the same. It would allow me to trace the family back several more generations. The only other thing I know is that Sophia Nash married Oliver Rouse in 1814 and died in Gibson, NY on 4/12/1854. All I know about Oliver Rouse is that he fought in the Battle of Plattsburgh, married Sophie Nash in 1814 and moved to western New York where they had eight kids. He worked on the Chemung canal and was a pioneer in the area. He was born in Jericho VT on 5/22/1770, married in 1814 and died around 1860. I know the 1770 date sounds a little off and I am looking into it. Any help would be appreciated. Ted White

    1. Vermont marriage/divorce records
    2. RICHARD CARTER
    3. I have recently received a "No RECORD FOUND" answer from Montpelier on a request for Marriage (about 1902-1905) and/or Divorce (about 1912) record for Augusta Sylvia Larson and Arthur Charles Bingham. I was told the fee would be $14, which I happily sent. When I received the answer, the explanation showed that the fee was only $9 since they found no record, but, that there would be no refund of $5, or less.. I do not believe that that is a good reflection on the Vital Records office, although it should be a good money maker. But, be that as it may, is it possible that Montpelier would have no record, but, St Albans might, as I am fairly sure that the divorce was in St Albans. The marriage could have been anywhere. Is there a kind soul out there who might check in St Albans for me. Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
