Hello, Have you tried writing to the Fairfax (Franklin County), VT Town office. They would be able to pass it on to Henry Raymond who has done a great deal of genealogy research in the past for the requests that come in. He has also compiled a database of vital statistics for the town of Fairfax. There are also still Bellows families living in the Fairfax area. Their address is: Fairfax Town Office P.O. Box 27 Fairfax, VT 05454 Hope this helps, Lynn
I would be interested in the BRESSOR surname. Thank you. ~Kathy
Eugene Bellows of Fairfax, Franklin County Vermont b. June 02, 1829 in either Fairfax or Middlebury, Addison County Seeking anyone who can help connect him to his origins. Family letters generalize that the family came from Belleau, France in the Aisne-Marne area about 40 miles NE of Paris. Traveled as Huguenot refugees into the Netherlands, then to England, where name spellings seem to have evolved to Bellows.. Immigrated from England to Acadia (Maritime Provinces, Canada) in pre-Scots times. During Acadian Diaspora, some to Louisiana (as Belleau). Our branch emigrated to Quebec, Canada and the Lake Champlain area of northwestern Vermont, USA ( as Bellus and Bellows ). Eugene Bellows m. Lucy Cline in Fairfax, January 10, 1846 To date have been unable to locate marriage record which might indicate parentage for both, or any birth records for either. Eugene & Lucy maintained a French-speaking household. They had 12 confirmed children, possibly 15. Of the surviving children remaining in Vermont: Alfred, twins Lucy and Lucia, and Roelgene (or Rogene) we have the associated surnames of DRINKWINE, DUSTIN, FLOOD, MASON, TENANT, PRESTON, WOODWORTH. Seeking any of these who are descendants who can shed light on Eugene and Lucy's origins and our Vermont cousins. Thanks. Lowry lzday@mindspring.com

Somewhere there is a 60 page book called "They left their mark: a collection of sketches of people in Jericho and Underhill." Published in 1992 by the Jericho/Underhill Bicenntenial Committee. Does someone have the book? Could they give a list of the people sketched in the book. Or could you tell me if any Rouse, Rood or Nash was sketched in the book Ted White
I would also be interested in any Lockwood entries. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ted White <tedwhite@u.washington.edu> To: <VTCHITTE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 04, 2000 6:51 PM Subject: They left their mark > Somewhere there is a 60 page book called > "They left their mark: a collection of sketches of people in Jericho > and Underhill." > Published in 1992 by the Jericho/Underhill Bicenntenial Committee. > Does someone have the book? > Could they give a list of the people sketched in the book. > Or could you tell me if any Rouse, Rood or Nash was sketched in the book > > Ted White >
Looking for information on Norma Florence Cassidy born 1919 died 1963. I know she died in Vermont, but am unsure where she was born. Thought I'd try the lists while waiting for snail mail response since I've been so lucky with them. She was married twice. Second time to Rudolph Elkhill. She had five children, one by first husband. I do not know the name of her first husband, Cassidy was her maiden name. She may have been born in Maine, but also strong possibility she was born in Vermont. From the little bit of information I've been able to find it hints to her being related to the Eastman side of Eastman-Kodak. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Michele
I'm interested in anyone researching the Lockwood surname in Chittenden Co. Thanks, Nicole Olson
Dear Listers & Family: I received this on one of the lists that I subscribe to. You all might want to check on it. Darlene, Inverness, FL In a message dated 4/18/00 2:12:05 AM Pacific Daylight Time, zona.himmelsbach@juno.com writes: << Hello list members searching Ohio records for marriage information: This comes from the April 2000 Mahoning County Chapter of the OGS newsletter: "Introduced into the Ohio House of Rep. is a bill to amend the Ohio Revised code that should have genealogists up in arms. 'It states, in part, that upon receiving a request for records pertaining to the issuance of marriage licenses, a probate court shall furnish copies of the records as provided under section 149.43 of the Ohio Revised code, except that the court shall delete or otherwise remove any social security numbers and the maiden names of the mothers of the parties to a marriage so that they are not available to the person requesting the records, except for use by the department of human services, law enforcement personnel, and if ordered by the court in a civil or criminal trial.' If any individual genealogist feels that this would impact their ability to do genealogical research, a letter voicing your concern would be in order here. The address is: The Honorable____, Ohio Representatives, 77 South High St., Columbus, Ohio 43266-0603. Or www.house.state.oh.us/voice/index. html. Representative Ron Hood from Canfield is a co-sponsor of this bill." Pass this on to any other lists you are subscribed to if you think others might also be seeking marriage information in Ohio records. Barbara Faig Tennessee >>
Thank you for the information about the Ohio bill. How do you suppose they came up with it? I am an Ohio resident, and it sounds like they never heard of genealogy. I'll see what I can find out.....
I am looking for information on Nathan N. Babcock, in particular the names of his parents. He was born in Hinesburgh on October 28, 1918 and married Caroline Dickinson of Cambridge in Burlington on January 18, 1848. The service was performed by Rev. Starks. The 1850 census lists him as a carpenter/joiner living in Burlington. He lived there until the late 50's and then moved to Minnesota. There is a record of the death of a 68 year old Nathan Babcock in Hinesburgh on April 27, 1847 and I think that may be a relative. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello list! does anyone have access to this city directory? I need a lookup in it. I know my Robert GORDON was there in April of 1890, that's when my grandmother was born in Burlington. So they should show up in this city directory. Robert GORDON and his wife Elizabeth HARWOOD. Robert was a baker, if it gives occupations for people. And it would be fantastic if it gave the names of any children in the household. These two people must have been in the Witness Protection Program because there is absolutely nothing on them anywhere, Thanks in advance for any help. Susan in Florida
Good Morning John The Burlington City Directory Year 1869 doesn't show a partnership of Carey and Parker, but shows an individual by the name of E.M. Carey, photographer on Church St, Boarding with Mrs. M.J. Lucas. Also listed is a Charles Parker, photographer boarding at The Central House. In 1871 there is no mention of either man. The address 150 Church St is the location of Burlington City Hall. There may have been an art and photographic exhibit at City Hall at the time of your photo. Mal Bevins, VTCHITTE list manager. Have noted comments about Vermont VR & Montpelier. Most of the town clerks offices have copies of their records if they exist--each clerks office varies but some I have been visited have burial records along with their town clerk records and most have card files. It may be worth while to write to particular clerk offices and enclose a SASE for a reply and if you want put in a $5.00 check for a preliminary check of their files. the smaller the town the more personal attention. have had less success with Brattleboro than Underhill, Thetford etc. While the county clerks have the court files, many of the town clerk offices have the original land record books.
