I am looking for WATSON Family members. My gr gr grandfather, Jermiah was suppose to be born in VT in 1804. I have looked at old census records, 1800 and on, being there is so little info on them, am having a really hard time trying to figure out just where in VT he was born. In the 1820 census I find some Watsons in Milton, am not quite sure if they are mine, but have to start somewhere. I think Jeremiah had a brother named Mark and one named Jacob, all this is guess work. I have Mark born in l8l0 and Jacob born in 1806. Jermiah eventually moves to Freedom, Catt Cty, NY where his first son is born, I believe he also married there in NY to a Melinda Heath. In 1850 he is in Town of Troy, Walworth Cty, WI. I did travel to WI and to the town of Troy and to the Walworth Courthouse and also the Courthouse in Jefferson, but could not find anything on Jeremiah. At the time I did not look for any records on Mark or Jacob and now realize I should have as maybe it would lead me to info on Jeremiah. Mark & Jacob and spouses are buried in Evergreen Cemetary in Troy Center as is either Jeremiah or his wife, Melinda, or both of them. We did find a tombstone which was broken in half and know that it is ours, but could not make out if it was for both or one of them. Would you have access to Land records or death records for any of the members of this clan? I live in a suburb of St. Paul, MN and do have access to MN Historical Library and their records and would be happy to help anyone in this area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. --WebTV-Mail-11729-2274 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit I happen to have a photocopy of the 1840 census index for VT with several "R"'s . I note that there are several Robie's listed in 1840. There is also one Robbie listed for Chittenden Co., VT. ROBBIE: John Robbie Chittenden Co., Burlington, page 043. ROBIE: Edward Robie, Orange Co., Corinth, page 182 Ichabod Robie, Orange Co., Corinth, page 182 John Robie, Orange Co., Corinth, page 181 Jonathan Robie, Orange Co, Corinth, page 181 Jonathan Robie, Orange Co., Corinth, page 187 Richard Robie, Orange Co., Corinth page 181 Samuel Robie, Franklin Co, Fairfield, page 297 Sophia, Robie, Franklin Co., Fairfield, page 297 Of course the 1840 census did not list names except for the head of household. Several of these are listed on the same page in the census which indicates that they lived near each other and therefore might be presumed to be related. My page on the 1850 census does not extend to Robie. There are no Robbie's listed. Hope this helps. I am looking for information on the following surnames: PLACE, NEWELL My ancestors John Place & Lydia Jackson (Garland) Place moved to Colchester about 1790 and had several children. John, a boat builder, and Lydia hailed from eastern New Hampshire. John, Lydia and at least one son (Nathaniel) moved to Washington County, Ohio by 1818, as Ohio records have a recorded marriage for Nathaniel in that year. I'm guessing that other Place sons may have stayed in Vermont, as their are some similarities in given names of Place's in Ohio and Vermont that are unusual (Ransom & Emerson), but that is conjecture at this point. The Place's apparently moved to Vermont with the Newell family of New Hampshire. I don't know if the Newell's also moved on to Ohio or not. Thanks! I have lots of info on Lydia's family - John is our mystery man - parents unknown. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Hello: My research is for early Blanchard family of Colchester and Smith ,through a Blanchard daughter. The earliest was in 1789 of Moses Blanchard in land records. His son, JOB and Abiel, and daughters Lucinda and one who married Elijah Wood. My line is through Abiel who was declared non-compos by court and had guardians appointed for him. His family-wife-Phoebe and children fled about 1816/ 1817 with her sister and family Lydia Benson, to Cortland , New York. They were there in Taylor area from 1820 census on. I would like to know where to get cemetery records for Colchester . The family owned land on Mathers Head and Potato Point in addition to land on the penisula. Looks like resort area today. Job and Moses died circa 1810/1813. Have just been told by a family member that my Father: James Powers O'KELLY s/o Lawrence & Carolone POWER b 4 June 1881 - Shelburne, Chitt., Vt. worked in Shelburne, as a meat cutter/butcher, for a man w/surname of WEIR who owned a butcher/meat business there. It would have been ca 1895-1900 that he worked there. Also was told that the butcher block, used in this business, is housed in a museum in Shelburne. Can anyone give me info re this? If so, is there any history that *might* include people who worked for Mr. WEIR. I am not sure I am spelling this surname correctly. It is the way it sounded to me. I thank you, in advance, for any help. Bev
