Hi, all, The recent posts about helping each other have been really good. My immediate interest has drawn a continuous blank. Reuben PARMELE(E) was minister at a Congregational Church in Hinesburg in 1794. I had hoped to find some record of the birth of a son, William PARMELEE, on 13 August 1794. Clergy are apt to baptize their kids, aren't they? Keep up the good researching, everybody. Mary Parmelee S.

Looking for any trace of Isaiah PRESTON and Elenor BOWLES, parents of Charles PRESTON b 1828 in Huntington Center, Chittenden Co, VT (per his death certificate). Were they also the parents of Benjamin?
Hello, I am beginning to research my husbands' family. Looking for any info on Felix, Moses or Leo(Leon) Baillargeon, Fairfax, VT late 1800's. Word is that they traveled from Canada to NY and then to VT. We have some info after 1900 but have hit a stalemate prior to their moving to VT. Family history says they ran away from home in Canada. Once in VT Felix took the name Badger. Thanks, Cindie Badger
I only copied two pages for my own reference. The following names were listed as early settlers: Amos Brownson and John Chamberlain with their families in 1775. In the fall they left for fear of the British army and didn't return until 1784. They returned along with James Holly, Joseph Wilson and Jesse McFairlain. The first settlements in the south part of town were made by Ozem Brewster and Daniel Robbins about 1786. The south side of Winooski river Amos Brownson, Jr. Matthew Cox, Jesse Green, Wm. Douglas, Parley and Comfort Starr, Clement Hoyt, James and Peter Crane, James Hall and Nathaniel and Asa Alger. The west part of town included Asa Brownson, Nathan and Henry Fay. Joseph Hall was one of the first to settle on the north side of the river. Another early settler was James Whitcomb. Those in the War of 1812. Prominent were Capt Roswell Hunt, Benoni Thompson, ensign, Capt. Manwell who enlisted as lieutenant and Elihu Bates, Nathan Fay, Jesse Green, Sawyer Jewell, Abram Smith and William Rhodes. A company is credited to the towns of Richmond, Jericho and Williston commanded by Capt Roswell Hunt; Amos B. Cooper, Joshua Whitcomb, Timothy Thompson, John Kimpton, Artemas Flagg, Clark Hillgar, Iddo Green, Joel Brownson, Jr., Nathan Fay, Gershom Flagg, Reuben Squire, William Reynolds, Samuel T. Bass, John Mackwell, Anson Boyington, Jeremiah Terry, Enoch Noble, Shubal Barber, Josiah Thompson. Luther Curtis, Barney Spooner, John Pake, Chester H. Nichols, Merrill Fellows, Nathan Arnold, Samuel Douglas, Elijah Hinkson, Joseph Hall, Jr.. Joseph Douglas, Daniel Roins, Jr. (my note--perhaps Robbins) ,Asa Gilbert, Isaac Hullock, Richard Douglas,Jared C. Smith, Ezekiel Squire, John Chamberlain, Truman---(end of this page) Election of officers of the town in March of 1795 Joshua Chamberlain, clerk; Constant C. Hallock, constable; Felix Augar, Benjamin Farnsworth and Peter Crane selectmen; Joel Brownson, Asa Brownson, Jr. and Benjamin Farnsworth, justices. The first representative elected in 1796 was Jonathan Chamberlain. A deed of 120 acres by Abram Smith to Gov. Thomas Chittenden for 30 pounds dated April 23, 1795 was recorded. I have no other information on these names, except perhaps for Daniel Robbins and William Reynolds. If you see a name here that might be your family, it is at least a starting point. Nancy Vogt

I am looking for Jonas Newton and family in Milton, Chittenden Co. Jonas was born approx. 1764 in Shewsbury, MA. In 1785 he married Tryphene Pond in Hubbardston, MA. They had two children in Hubbardston, Abijah and Hannah (there may be more that I am unaware of). The Newton Genealogy by Ermina Newton Leonard states that "they removed, probably to Vermont." Jonas was still in Hubbardston in 1790 but I found a Jonas Newton in Milton, Chittenden Co., Vermont in the 1800 census. I am guessing that this Jonas is the one I'm looking for. By 1810, Jonas Newton and his son Abijah are listed in the Ticonderoga, Essex Co., N.Y....and, by 1818 Abijah's family had moved to Canada West although it appears that his father remained in N.Y. There seems to be a deep, dark hole in birth, marriage and death records in that time and place. Abijah married, possibly in Milton, possibly in N.Y. His wife's name was Mary and she MAY have been an Edmiston (or other variant of that name). I have a record that states Abijah was a private in the N.Y. miltia that fought at the battle of Plattsburgh in the War of 1812. Any help greatly appreciated. Lucy

Hello all- Anyone researching the name WHITE? I am looking for the father and mother of Hosea WHITE who married Sarah ARCHER in 1853 in Medina Co., Ohio. I believe this Hosea WHITE was from Chitt. Co., VT. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Cynthia
My G.Grandfather, James Brown RICHARDS, was born in 1820 in Charlotte, Chittendon County, Vermont according to his obituary. Some members of my family have said that his father was John Jay RICHARDS (b.1765; d.1850) and his mother, Charotte (WARD) RICHARDS. Charotte WARDS' father was John WARD and her mother Mary TORREY. I have no documentation or sources for any of this except for G.Grandfather's obituary showing his birth. I've not been successful in obtaining any records from Vermont and now understand from this list that they probably are just not available in that time frame. Does anyone recognize any of those names. Sure could use some help. My father always said the RICHARDS came from Wales, but I wasn't interested in genealogy then so didn't ask questions. Really dumb!!! Thanks Ramona Summers ramonasum@home.com
--WebTV-Mail-19132-3479 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit I am researching Heman (later changed to Herman) A. Robbins who was born in Richmond, Chittenden Co. Vt in 1824. I have no proof as yet, but I believe he might be the son of Daniel Robbins, Jr. A Daniel Robbins (Sr?) was one of the early settlers in Richmond, VT >From "History of Chittenden Co." Published in 1886 is the following excerpt: "The first settlements begun in the south part of the town (Richmond, VT) were made by Ozem Brewster and Daniel Robbins about the year 1786". I have copied the census of Daniel Robbins and Daniel Robbins, Jr. for 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 and I have yet to make any sense of them. There is either no male listed who would be head of household or no female who would be the wife in several listings. They are both listed on the same page next to each other so perhaps the household was a "cooperative venture". I will write you privatly also and perhaps we can collaborate and share information Nancy vogt --WebTV-Mail-19132-3479 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from mailsorter-101-8.iap.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.42) by storefull-113.iap.bryant.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Fri, 14 Jul 2000 04:43:58 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <Gloria.Reynolds@uvm.edu> Received: from smtpgate.uvm.edu (smtpgate.uvm.edu [132.198.101.121]) by mailsorter-101-8.iap.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8-wtv-f/ms.dwm.v7+dul2) with ESMTP id EAA24347 for <nrvogt@webtv.net>; Fri, 14 Jul 2000 04:43:57 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mstocks9.uvm.edu (132.198.107.103:1028) by smtpgate.uvm.edu (LSMTP for Windows NT v1.1b) with SMTP id <0.000C5E98@smtpgate.uvm.edu>; Fri, 14 Jul 2000 7:43:51 -0400 Message-Id: <3.0.5.32.20000714073937.0090e100@pop.uvm.edu> X-Sender: greynold@pop.uvm.edu X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Light Version 3.0.5 (32) Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 07:39:37 -0400 To: nrvogt@webtv.net (Nancy Vogt) From: Gloria Reynolds <Gloria.Reynolds@uvm.edu> Subject: Re: Chitt.
