Hi All I have been told that my grandmother Rosalie Pariseau Laverdiere b Underhill Vt 1893 was part native american and I am trying to find out more on this theory. She was the daughter of Octave Pariseau and Matilda Belhumeur. I am especially interested in info on Matilda. Any ideas? I live in Washington state and a trip to Vermont isn't too likely much as I'd love one. Thanks in advance. Judy Laverdiere Cooper
Sally I would request death records from Montpelier. I understand the County Clerks are often too busy to look for records.
You certainly could locate this family on the 1850 census and since most of what you are searching falls in the range of records available after 1865 you should be able to get records from Monpelier. (See the Vt web site)

Hi, I'm hoping someone can send this novice in the right direction! I am looking for information on Charles William Prentiss b. 9/11/1844 in Irasburg, d.7/4/1899 in Burlington. I believe his father's name was also Charles, and his mother's was Caroline. I am not sure when he left VT, but he lived for a time in NE ( with his wife Isabelle McDonald who preceded him in death in 1890) and also did a lot of traveling because he was forever out of work. He apparently made his way back to VT and at the time of his death, or right before, was living with his son Guy, and his sister Mary. I have become confused as to where I should direct my inquiries in VT for death, birth certificates. I would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks, Sally sroth@midusa.net

About two years ago I started trying to find out about my Rose family history. To date I have gotten as far as my fathers birth certificate. Not very successful I'm afraid. Based on this document I have determined that my grandfather's full name was Charles Elmer Rose. It lists his age at the time of dad's birth in 1917 as "36". This contradicts what my dad, Raymond Henry Rose, always said about his father, that he was about 90 when he died in 1955. The birth certificate also gives the father's (Charles') birthplace as "VT", possibly suspect information also. I have been unsuccessful in getting g-fathers death certificate, having been sent the wrong one twice now. I do know that g-father died in 1955 and that he was living in Williston at the time so may have been in a Burlington hospital. Dad and his brother, the two youngest, left VT in the late 1940's or early 1950's. The other four siblings were all women so the surnames will have changed and I have lost touch with all my Vermont relatives. Dad's sisters, all born before 1915, were Priscilla, Marian, Dorothy and Vivian. I am certain that Priscilla stayed in Vermont, I visited her home in Burlington many times as a boy prior to 1959 when Dad moved the family to California. Although all of my fathers sisters have most likely passed away by now, there are, I am sure, many cousins of my generation still living in the area who could help shed some light for me but I have no idea of any of thier surnames. I know that this is pretty much a shot in the dark but, one can always hope. I will be traveling to Williston in September to see if I can dig up any facts. It would be nice to know where my gradparents are buried. Any suggestions or scraps of info would be greatly appreciated. Research is difficult since I live about as far away from my birthplace as I could get and still be on the same planet! I believe there were many different spellings, Joslin, Joslen, Joslyn Jocelyn Josselyn, etc. I have seen many variations of this name in the book entitled "Cemetery Listings of Georgia, VT" which is Franklin Co., but it is just north of the county line of Chittenden. Also saw many Joselyns listed in "Vital Records of Putney, VT to 1900" by Ken Stearns published by the Gen Soc. of VT It is not a line I am actively researching as I already have the information I need. --WebTV-Mail-9825-2555 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from mailsorter-101-6.iap.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.40) by storefull-117.iap.bryant.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:35:18 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <VTCHITTE-L-request@rootsweb.com> Received: from lists6.rootsweb.com (lists6.rootsweb.com [63.92.80.125]) by mailsorter-101-6.iap.bryant.webtv.net (8.8.8-wtv-f/ms.dwm.v7+dul2) with ESMTP id SAA28951; Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:35:17 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from slist@localhost) by lists6.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id e6H1VxB23768; Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:31:59 -0700 Resent-Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:31:59 -0700 X-Original-Sender: RLeeBo50@aol.com Sun Jul 16 18:31:58 2000 From: RLeeBo50@aol.com Message-ID: <cb.7962020.26a3bc06@aol.com> Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 21:31:50 EDT Subject: Re:Chitt.Co. I am interested in the following name, time frame, and place: Spear, 1793-1840, Charlotte, I reside in California. I appreciate any suggestions but what Charlotte area cemetery would have been used in 1800? Are there any church records? Thank you very much. --- Jeffrey Spear --- jeffspear@earthlink.net --- EarthLink: It's your Internet.
I would think that you should be able to find vital records on your family names since they are relatively "recent" as far as genealogy records. I would opt for the death record. You can order these for $7.00 each record.
