Hello all, I've been very busy lately and therefore have just been watching all the postings on the various surnames you're all researching. But I figured it's time I join in with my own names now. I'm looking for information on CARLOS JOSLIN, b. Nov. 30, 1805. His parents are the mystery. Carlos was orphaned when he was fairly young and moved to NY with an unknown guardian. He married MARY BOSTWICK (b. Canada) near Rochester, NY in 1825 and the family moved west, first to Michigan, then Wisconsin and finally Minnesota. Thanks to the messages here, I now know why no "official" record of Carlos' birth has turned up yet...they weren't kept by the state at that time. I have been told there was an EDWARD JOSLIN, son of Zebediah and Hannah (Hale) Joslin, who died in 1813 in Huntington, VT. If so, the time frame would be right to make him a candidate to be Carlos' father. Does anyone have any information on this Edward Joslin? Who he married? Any children and their birth dates? Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Carlos is my son-in-law's ancestor and I sure would like to help his family find his parents. Also, for Nancy, I see that you're researching the name REYNOLDS. This is a real long shot, but here goes anyway. I have an Abel Reynolds, b. May 28, 1802, place unknown, d. 1866 in Perry Center, NY. He married Lucy Butler, b. 1805, New Marlboro, MA. Since I know there were a lot of families moving from VT and other parts of New England to NY during that time period (especially after Mt. Pinatubo erupted :-) ), I'm wondering if Abel and Lucy might have been among them. Do you have an Abel anywhere in your Reynolds family? This one's in my own line and has been a puzzle for some time. Thanks in advance for checking. Barb Senden
Can anyone tell me where and when Polly Irish was born? And who were her parents? Polly was married to Friend Farrand in 1802 in Cholester, Vt. She died before 1820 I will appreciate any of these dates. Florence Thelen McHenry, Il.

Bev: You should certainly be able to send for records given the time frame. Check with the Chittenden Co. site for information. One can not expect to get a whole family history on line, except for those rare occasions when a "cousin" surfaces who has done all the searching and is willing to share information.
A thought for Ann and everyone - I don't know all of the details, but one argument for the migration in the 1810s is the eruption of Mount Pinitobow (sp?) Apparently, this volcano erupted in 1814/1815. I think it was in the Pacific but I am not sure. Anyway, it released a great deal of ash into the atmosphere. The year 1814/1815 was one of the coldest on record, with snow in the summer (July and August). It was very hard in New England. So some of the immigration to the west, New York and beyond, was due to the cold winter caused by the volcano which made life in New England very difficult. Obviously food became an issue as well. Additional factors were the War of 1812, and the fact that land was getting scarse and the younger sons could not start their own farms. The younger sons moved west for land. I am sure other people know more about this than I do. Ted White

Hello All, I'm researching my wife's grandmother who lived in Burlington. Her marriage certificate gives her name as Rossie L. Weeks but she was known to her son Harlan Ross Watson as Rosumund Louise Welko. Rossie (Rosamund) was married to Ross Elisha Watson of Plattsburgh, New York on September 30, 1896. She was 21 years old at the time so was born around 1875. Her father was George W. Watson and her mother was Lottie C. Webb. Any information would be very much appreciated. I am checking in with the Law family name: John Law, b. 4/21/1761 New London, CT, d. 1841, Burlington, VT. m. Deborah ----, bef 1812, b. ?, d. 3/28/1827, Elmwood, VT. s/o Honorable Richard Law, (b. 3/7/1733) and Ann Prentiss (b.abt 1743) (10 children) I am aware of one son, Prentis by this marriage, and possibly another, John by a different marriage. John and Deborah were the only generation I am aware of in Vermont. Richard was prominent in Connecticut politics and Prentis moved to Chicago apparently after his fathers death in 1841. All of the above is tribal knowledge, I have no records that prove the details. Can anyone help? Thanks Bruce
