    1. re: that flood. Thanks loads folks!
    2. I got so many replies and so much info (just about everyone had something different to add) that I feel I should explain my query and give you folks a tidbit of history. The query was because I was sold a photo postcard as Champlain, NY and found out it couldn't be there. So I thought of Winooski's Champlain Mills Mall and asked the list about the flood. The postcard has never been postmarked, but has been written on the back and I want to let all of you read what it says. Typed exactly as written, but not signed by anyone: "This is the new mills were I made a x them buildings are swept away there was lots of men that work in the morning in that mill and they had to come out by the window on the roof of a shed about 8:30 am and at 10 am the shed was swept away" On the front is printed Champlain Mills Flood Scene; Mov 4th 1927; Huard Photo Co. On the big brick building three and a third windows are showing, and the other buildings are just the tops and the smokestacks showing. Thank you all for your help and if I can be of any help here in Essex Co., New York, let me know. I am going to pay attention to that Champlain Mills Mall next time I come to Burlington. Hope you enjoyed the trivia from the card. Gretna Longware, Elizabethtown, NY Surnames: Longware, Wilson, LaPrarie, Bradford

    3. My husband and I went to Vermont for our 16th wedding anniversary. That was in July and the scenery is absolutly gorgeous! He has relatives that settled in Underhill,VT and were part of the Irish Settlement. We saw a couple of graveyards and there gravestones. Copied a couple epitahs (too bad they don't have epitahs like that anymore.) saw the house that his ancestor built back in 1840. The house is still in use and the present owners were good enough to allow us in to see the inside. The ceiling beams are still there as well as some other fixtures. The wedding picture of his ancestor hold a place of honor in the living room. All in all-we had a very enjoyable three days. We stayed in a B & B the second night which had a great view of Mt. Mansfield. Very relaxing. Dreams of opening a B&B there. But... it's still good to get home. Dirty, crowded, hurried, crime laden and plenty of Dunkin Donuts!! Sylvia
