Hi, Listers, 1. Was Enosburg Falls once only called Enosburg? 2. To what entity should I write for a death certificate if someone died in Enosburg in 1826?...or did such a thing exist at that early time? 3. When was Franklin Co. taken off of Chittenden Co.? 4. Where do yo suppose I could find info on the birth of someone in 1801, Charlotte, VT? 5. Anyone got any advice on how to find out when someone arrived in Charlotte? He was in the 1800 Chittenden census, but was too young to be listed in the 1790 census. My guess is that his father (unknown--a BARTON) came from RI, via MA, but no idea when. Any info/advice is welcomed. Jane in AZ thaia@goodnet.com
Researching John GODDARD and Lucy (STILES) GODDARD, also ?John SHAW? John GODDARD (b. December 13 or 15, 1764) married Lucy STILES (b. December 21, 1762 in Hollis NH) on March 21, 1785 in Hollis, NH. He is said to have died July 26, 1812 in Milton, VT. Their son Caleb GODDARD is listed in the 1850 Georgia, VT census as having a 90 year old woman named Lucy SHAW living in his household. Caleb subsequently moved to Lena, IL. I received the following from the Lena cemetery: Goddard, Lucy Gl: No lot number b: d: October 29, 1853 Age: 93 yrs. 10 mos. 8 das. Sp: John Shara (?) Goddard A kind person sent me a photograph of the tombstone of Lucy GODDARD. If I squint right this is what the stone seems to read (very hard to read) Goddard Lucy wife of John Shaw died Oct. 29. 1853 Lucy SHAW (aged 90 in 1850) would be the same age as Lucy GODDARD (93 IN 1853), but not as Lucy (STILES) GODDARD who would only have been 87 in 1850. Are these 3 Lucy all the same person? Is there any evidence that Lucy (STILES) GODDARD married a John SHAW after John GODDARD's death. Any thoughts? Also I would appreciate confirmation of John GODDARD's death date? Thank you very much. Afa

Dear VTCHITTE group--is anyone on the list researching DAVISES? I'm trying to find out about Josiah Davis, of Bolton and possibly also Charlotte. He would have been born sometime between 1750 and 1770, I'm guessing, probably in Thompson CT (Windham county). By 1802, and probably earlier, he was in VT. A property record places him in Bolton in that year. There is also in Charlotte a "Josiah Davis homestead," of which I know nothing more. Josiah's wife's name was Polly (dgtr's death certificate) OR Olive (1802 property record). His dgtr was Nancy Davis, the wife of Abraham Alger Jr of Richmond, VT. Thanks for any help you can give. Best, Michele Stepto

Hi Pam, The ACGS is indeed a legitimate organization. I am a member of it and use their library quite often. Their home page is http://www.acgs.org/ That always works for me. I think you must navigate to the sub pages from the home page. Hope that helps.
