    1. Re: [VTCALEDO] Bailey - early Peacham
    2. Diane; I can tell you a little bit about your James Bailey, but I am afraid that this is going to debunk some of the family stories. First, James was born in Bradford, Mass (it was his son, also named James, who was born in Newburyport, Mass) on 11 Feb 1722 (not Feb 11 1720/1721). He had 11 children The two you did not list are Abigail who was born in Newburyport about 1746, and Charles. His birthplace and date are unknown to me. James was not one of the first settlers of Peacham, but he was an early settler. He was not there during the French and Indian War, however. In fact, Peacham was not there! The French and Indian War began in 1754. Peacham was founded by Deacon Jonathan Elkins in 1775, and the first (only?) blockhouse was built shortly thereafter, during the Revolution. James was a "town official" but I can not find out what office he held in the records that I have. Hope that this helps a little. Vincent Falter
