Am unable to complete genealogy on my ggg grandfather a (John) Phillip Nicholas Vermouth (or Wermuth). He married a Betsey Kidder in Waterford, VT on 19 Nov 1823. We believed he changed name from Wermuth to Vermouth upon arrival in this country. In fact he registered all four daughters at one time, using Wermuth! Sons were listed as Vermouth! Presumably buried at Passumpsic Cemetery (near Waterford town line). In History of Barnet, VT (by Frederic Palmer Wells) Pg. #191 states: "Several revolutionary soldiers are buried there. Philip Vermouth a German, a soldier in Napoleon's Army is the Russian Campaign, who is remembered by the oldest people, is also one of the occupants of that cemetery." Evidently all Passumpsic cemetery records were burned in the 1920's. I have physically been unsuccessful in locating markers. Phillip registered for the 1850 Census as a German (page #248, Waterford,VT) Had interests in Barnet, Waterford and a property owner in St. Johnsbury. Could not find his name as deceased through VT vital statistics. He perhaps drifted down from Canada. His wife Betsey, died 3 Mar 1855, at Passumpsic Village 15 Feb 1885 and was a member of the Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury and I believe buried at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Would there be anyone with any further information regarding Phillip? Perhaps obits from St. Johnsbury Caldedian Record newspaper? Other suggestions? Thanks. Bob Vermouth in Florida
