    1. New subscriber; researching DRESSER & SMITH

    3. Hello, I am a new subscriber to this mailing list. I joined because I recently learned that my gg-grandmother, Susan Almira SMITH, was born in the area of Lyndon, Caledonia County, VT. She was the daughter of Clarissa BEMIS & Elias SMITH. Clarissa's ancestry through the BEMIS & JENKS lines goes back to the early 1600's. But we have no idea who the parents of Elias SMITH were. We know he was from New Hampshire, and that he was born circa 1792, but not much else. Susan Almira SMITH married Joseph Dearborn DRESSER, but I do not know when or where. I know that the records at the Town Hall in Lyndon are not available for the years in question (i.e. 1840's up to about 1855). From what I was told back in 1997, the book which contains those records had been missing for at least 15 years prior to that time. I found a listing for a microfilm of these records in the Family History Catalog on the LDS website. Film #28425, "Book of records for recording marriages, births, deaths, and marks of cattle in the town of Lyndon, v. 2, 1791-1868 : and also recording warrants for people to depart Lyndon.", was filmed in 1951, and would therefore appear to contain the missing records. I was wondering if anybody on this list has had an opportunity to view this microfilm. Are the missing records in fact there on the microfilm? If they are, then I may try to get it through our local FHC. My main desire at this point in time is to identify the parents of Joseph Dearborn DRESSER, who was born sometime between 1820-1831, supposedly somewhere in Maine (but we don't know where, and obviously don't know when). Joseph Dearborn DRESSER was a tailor; he and Susan and their children lived primarily in Montreal, though they do also appear to have lived in Brockville, Ontario, for some brief period of time. Joseph is buried in Brockville, while Susan is buried in the Lyndon Center Cemetery. -- Mary (Dresser) Taffet [email protected]

    3. Do you have anything on the Caledonia COunty (St Johnsbury) Smith descendants. I'm interested in Walter Perrin Smith, probate Judge of Caledonia County [b. 1841-d.1918], son of John S. Smith [d 1918] and Sophronia Perrin.[d. 1887] "Mary D. Taffet" wrote: > > Hello, > > I am a new subscriber to this mailing list.
