    1. [VTCALEDO] Susannah Farr, ~1779-1808, Waterford, VT
    2. Kevin Spaulding
    3. My 5G grandmother was Susannah Farr. She married Thomas Hill sometime before 1798 when their son Thomas was born. She died quite young on 8 Oct 1808 at Waterford, VT. Her age at death was given as 29 which would place her birth at abt 1779. So far, I have not been able to learn anything about her ancestry. I know that her husband Thomas Hill was born in Acworth, NH, so I suppose she might have come from somewhere near there if she did not come from the Waterford, VT area. If anyone would have any information that might tie in with my line, I would love to hear from you. Regards, Kevin Spaulding

    1. [VTCALEDO] TOBIN
    2. In response to inquiry concerning Tobin;s in Australia. I also am searching William Henry Tobin about 1868 married to Sarrah P. (maiden name Farnsworth). I am in contact with a friend who lives in Australia and her and I are checking the same names, she also found William Henry on the Family tree site but it was not ours, their are alot of names like our family have that are listed together but some seem to be mixed with others So we don't quite understand. Thank you, Charlene Tobin Rodriguez

River to Cal. Co, VT Greetings from a new subscriber! My ancestral grandfather, Jonathan SMITH md Serephena PUTNAM (who descends directly from the Putnam family of Salem, who played such key role in the Salem witch trials) They lived across the river from Caledonia Co, VT, at Bath, NH. Jonathan's GG frandfather was Lt. Philip SMITH who died, ostensibly, by 'witchcraft' Jan. 10, 1685. Jonathan's dau. Lucy S. Smith md Thomas HANCOCK of Bath. Thomas and Lucy's dau, Harriet 'Eliza' HANCOCK md William Franklin WHITCHER, and they moved from Bath to Caledonia Co, VT. I've been monitoring the controversy regarding CT lists on the Caledonia Co, VT list. I had many ancestors from Cal. Co and while half of them came overland across NH to Caledonia Co, VT, half of them were from Springfield, Deerfield, Hatfield, Hadley, MA and migrated up the Connecticut River to reach Grafton Co, NH and Caledonia Co, VT. In fact, another of my line, Captain Benjamin WRIGHT, (born in 1762, probably at Northfield, MA --son of Reuben and Hannah WRIGHT of Northfield, MA) led a governmental expedition up the CT River from Northfield, MA, to explore the region of Lake Champlain (I have an extraction from his published journal of that expedition). Many of the routes this expedition took northward became the roads which are present-day main roads in Grafton Co, NH and I believe, in Caledonia Co, VT. He returned to Northfield,MA with his expedition and later returned to VT to marry and settle. His daughter, Abigail was born in Ryegate in 1791. I may be in the minority in that many of my Caledonia Co, VT ancestors trace their roots down the CT River to Northfield and Springfield and Deerfield, and of those who migrated from eastern MA, many came from CT. Had I not been researching these lines for 18 years, perhaps I'd not have gotten back far enough to know that my Caledonia Co, VT lines origininated in MA and some in CT and that the Connecticut River played a key role in their migration. While the controversial lists probably pertain directly to many of our ancestors or Caledonia Co, VT, I'm sure that to many subscribers they are not pertinent. I just thought I'd contribute my ancestry and how it does pertain. Carol Ashby

    3. Charlene -- I assume you have looked at the pertinent census years at any Farnsworth families living in Caledonia Co? Is her birth year (1850) listed below an error - as you said she was married by 1860. Seems like the 1850 census might find her with her family still if she was similar in age to her husband, b. 1843. Donald: This is being sent to Caledonia County because of migration patterns of the Connecticut River Valley.....many of the later generations from settlers of the earlier settlements on the Connecticut River in Conn and Mass...migrated to Vermont between 1750-1820. Surnames given in the town histories give genealogist/family researchers clues as to where their surnames may have come from , especially if they have gone back far enough to do so. Maybe your surnames didnt migrate from the areas mentioned but at a later date (.that is if you dont see them on any of the early town histories from 1633-1750 in Mass or Conn.) I am in Mass but I have numerous ancestors scattered in Windham co.,Windsor Co, and Caledonia county of Vermont and they all orginated in the early towns of Mass and Conn. As to SMITH and witchcraft......there are several descendants from this Smith of Hadley living in Vermont. As for BLISS and PARSON families.....there are descendants all over Mass and Vt and some NH as well......I got email from several of them. Hope this answers your question........ 3. I agree with Harmon. The messages in question are forwarded from the CT River Valley list. I subscribed to the list for several weeks, and decided that it was not a good fit for my particular interests, although the listowner is very actively posting very informative messages. I decided to unsubscribe, only to find that I still got some messages from that list three times, as I belong to three Vermont mailing lists. I would prefer to see the Caledonia list focus on families that lived in the county.
