Looking for any information anyone may have on Hollis Vincent Lane & wife Laura Elizabeth Colburn m. 16 Oct. 1871 they had 5 children of which 3 were boys and twins daughters. If the Ellis family was from Scotland and ended up in Caledonia County, the chances are good that they did NOT pass through Cavendish and Rockingham on the way there; it is rather more likely that the person you are seeking moved there FROM Caledonia County on the way to somewhere else. Ryegate and Barnet, especially, were settled by the Scotch (yes, that's the correct term according to the OED, Burns, Scott, and the "Scotch Education Office" <grin>). Caledonia is, after all, the ancient name for Scotland. I am descended from members of the "Scotch-American Company," also known as the Inchinnan company, who arrived in Ryegate just before the Revolution (William Neilson/Nelson and Hugh Gardner).
