I recently made application to the Mayflower Society and have since discovered that my second great grandmother, Harriet E. Mason, who married David Samuel Exford in Pownal, Bennington, VT 16 August 1859, is NOT the daughter of John L. Mason and Rhoda Chamberlain. It was through John L. Mason that I would have had entre' to the Mayflower Society. This was a big disappointment because I paid a professional researcher to find out who the parents of Harriet E. Mason were and I am no closer to finding out that information. The reason I thought Harriet E. Mason was a dau of John L. Mason and Rhoda Chamberlain was that she was the right age to have been their dau, she was in the right place to have been their dau, and she named her first two children Rhoda Mary Exford and John Mason Exford. This is the transcription of that headstone: "Harriett E., wife of David S. Exford, died Dec. 19, 1867. Age 25 ys, 11 mo." I believe that date is incorrect as she supposedly died in childbirth and there is a Harriet Exford in the VR's for Pownal who died 20 December 1866 but none that died in Dec 1867. There is also an unnamed Exford child born 13 Dec 1866 who would probably be Levi E. Exford, her last child. Also, David S. Exford married his second wife 17 March 1867.
