Source, The Bennington (Vt) Evening Banner-- Mon.Aug. 30, 1943. BENNINGTON, Vt. BECKER BELIEVES IN TRY, TRY AGAIN. Pvt. Loren W. Becker of Camp Crowder, Mo., is a rather persistent soldier as was proven Saturday evening. At 7:45 p.m. he tried to phone his parents, Mr. and Mrs.Walter Becker of the North Bennington road, but unknown to him his entire family were out for the evening and did (sic) arrive home until 1:15 Sunday morning. Peace and quiet had settled in the house when the phone commenced ringing with continued insistence until Mrs. Becker removed the receiver. Pvt. Becker stated he had tried to reach her for hours at frequent intervals and intended to remain up all night if necessary to get her. He expects to be removed to a new area within a few days, so friends writing to him should wait until he new address is known. He stated that Pvt. Maurice Peckham, jr., who is also at Crowder sent his love to his parents at North Bennington and that he is well. Incidentally, the only thing that got the Beckers "goat" was that Pvt. Becker was "broke" and had the phone calls reversed.
