Jan, Thank you. This is very interesting. I don't know if this is my John West or not. My census "guesses" for him are 1. 1800 age 16-25, Orange, Orange, VT and 2. 1810, age 26-44, Orange, Strafford, VT. There is no family story of him as a medical person, but I don't know what a Sergeant Surgeon did either. I would think he was a little old (for the era) to be enlisting if this is the right John West. Is there any source for more details on him or the regt and company? I also can't figure out how he connected with Anna Harris from Manchester as Bennington and Orange counties are not ajacent. I'm trying to get some bricks loose from this wall! I appreciate any suggestions.
