Seeking information on John Birch who was in the 1920 census for Readsboro, together with wife Stella and son John. The son was age 1y 10m., Stella was 20 and the older John was 26. I have not been able to find them in the 1930 census, but I believe they were probably living in Readsboro. The parents of the older John were born in England, but I have not yet found their names. This John was born in NH according to the 1920 census, Stella and the son John were born in MA. Thanks for any help, Joann Nichols
Eliakim's first wife was Hannah. She died in April 1791 in the Town of Manchester. On the 1800 census, in Eliakim's household, there was one female "under 10", one over 16, and Eliakim's wife (based on her age ). Maybe Hannah died in child birth. In Eliakim's household in 1791, there were "three free white females". His oldest daughter, Sarah, was married prior to 1792, to Ezra Blakesley, so the three free white females in 1791 may be his daughters: one new born, Sarah and/or a housekeeper if Hannah had just died. His second wife was Mary Ann, also seen as "Marian". I do not have her death date. I would also be interested in learning if she was a widow & came in to the marriage with daughters of her own. Eliakim was on the building committee for the Manchester Baptist Church. Does anyone know if this church has old records that could be looked at to locate the names of Eliakim's daughters? Your help would be greatly appreciated as this is our "brick wall"! MaryLu in Minnesota
Would anyone have any info on the WOOD family of Glastonbury 1790-1800-1810-1820? All I have on my great-great grandmother , Hannah Wood, calcualted b. 1800, is that she md Nathan Prentice of Shaftsbury, in 1817 or so and removed to Broome Co NY. Have never been able to find but one reference to WOOD in Glastonbury, (and to Hannah's possible father), and that was in the 1790 FED Census for Glastonbury which showed a "Coffin" (?misprint, or nickname?) WOOD. There was later a Joseph WOOD who is listed in the same FED census with Hannah and her husband Nathan at Broome Co /1820...It's possible this could be a brother , but can't get much farther with this. "Coffin" given name could refer to someone who was a coffinmaker, using the beautiful wood of VT, I suppose. Anybody have anyu thoughts on that? Thanks, Jeannette
I am looking for a death date for Thomas Bull, born 1737 in New York. According to the Bull family history, "Jason Bull drove to New York state the year the yellow fever was so bad down the Ohio River (1821-23) and brought his grandfather, Thomas Bull, Sr., back to Columbus, OH. The grandfather was in his mid 80's when this occurred as he was born in 1837. His first wife, Martha, had died in Manchester Center, VT, in 1810 and Thomas Bull, Sr. then married ABIGAL HOVEY in 1816 at age 79." (I have seen Martha's tombstone at the Factory Point Cemtery.) Can anyone tell me if Abigal Hovey was also from the Town of Manchester? Or did he meet up with her in New York? MaryLu in Minnesota

Is there anyone out there who knows of anyone searching for information on the Fosters in the town of Manchester? In 1780, Josiah Foster of Dorset served under Abraham Underhill in the Revolutionary War. His wife's name was "Marian/Marion" and their oldest child was born in 1773. Their children were Deborah, Leonard, Rosannah, Marian, & Ransom. Apparently they were not there long, as they apparently left no paper trail! (Not found on a census.) In the 1881 Smith family history, it states that Nathan Smith (born 1771 in Manchester) married Rosannah "Foster". She was born in 1777, per the etching on her tombstone in Indiana. But we can not find a Foster who has a daughter "Rosannah/Roseanna/Roxanna" born in September 1777. The family history also states that Rosannah's family came from Connecticut. Does anyone have any suggestions how I could find some more clews? MaryLu in Minnesota

On my visit to VT last year, I found early births at the county clerk's office in each town. I repeat, each town. Some of these towns are so small that the county clerk works from home. It is best that if there isn't an email, that you write them. Of course if you are visiting there, then call first. Save you time and effort. The town clerk in the bigger towns are helpful and the records are well documented. By the way, have you tried contacting the Bennington Museum's Historical Society. There is a website and they do answer queries. They have the second best repository of VT records, with Barre, VT being the first. Either agency would be of great help to you. Volunteers and all. Both have websites...just search via the internet. Good hunting.
