    1. KY in WAR name
    2. Since you know he was in War why are u so shy., please help me here. Just because people lived or orignated in one state does not mean that they didn't migrate to another and serve their country. Bear with me. As a researcher, I have found these generations of people were every where> YES. IT took a napsack, bedroll frypan and container of water. Two sturdy legs and lots of will and determination. But I have found people in PA all the way to OREGON to IA to OR to PA back to OH then back to IA then back to KY then OH . An Internerate minister of sorts. In the years of 1812 people were in places many never dreamt they could be in. I would look at that data of the Greenard and see if you can gleam any data from it. It was hop skip and jump to go down river a couple times and be in KY . I am so thankful I have attended so many of George Schwietzers great talks. HE gently reminds us we have to have an O P E N MIND to do genealogy. About the time we say can't be .. be ever watchful. I have seen many a good researcher go awry with thoughts:" oh, their not in my area can not be mine." This is in no way meant to berate anyone but to help everyone be more open and receptive to ideas and places. I have learned most brick walls are in our mind. O yes a few are in the lost misplaced pages of history. But we miss it because of our thought process. I love doing a "BrickWall" chat and have everyone participate on that persons brick wall, inveritably someone will find data some where to bring back and share. The answer.. "Oh,I would not have thought of that at all." So if really stuck swap a name with someone else their thought prospective on the situation. IT may surprise you. We are creatures of habit and rote.. Bad for genealogists. :<( SusiCP Family Historian It's the Indian in me.....:>)

    1. Vermont State Prison, Windsor, VT
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. I have discovered that the 1900 and 1910 census for the Vermont State Prison in Windsor, Windsor Co., VT, contains the name of someone I am researching. His name is Seamon Leroy Witherell (sometimes spelled Wetherell); he was born in Winhall, Bennington Co., VT. His second wife, whom he married 6 May 1884 in Grafton, VT, was Flora Etta (Howe) Slocum. Does anyone know where records for the state prison in Windsor would be kept? I'd like to discover why he was in the prison. He died in Grafton on 27 Jan. 1917. His widow died 28 Aug. 1918. Thanks for any help! Joann Nichols

    3. I am trying to locate any information anyone might have on a family that supposedly lived in Bennington in or about 1800-1820. I only have the last name...Greenard. One of the sons who was born in Bennington was Stephen Greenard. His bio says his father served in the war of 1812 after which the family moved to Ohio. I have been able to track the Greenard family to Stephen but I have not been able to find anything beyond him...including any information on the Vermont connection. There was a William Greenard who is in the 1812 rosters but he was from Kentucky. Any held would be appreciated. She lived in both Leyden, Franklin County, Mass. and Guilford, Windham County, Vermont.  Obits have already been searched at the "Brattleboro Reformer" and "Vermont Phoenix".  I'm wondering if a Massachusetts newspaper might also have carried notices of her death.    THANK :-) YOU VERY much for any help here.   See death notice below for LYDIA MOWRY nee WEBSTER, my maternal 4th great grandmother. 1. Entries in Index to Arlington, VT Land records
    2. I am researching my Hall family who lived in the Arlington, VT area - probably from the 1790's until a bit after 1830. The other day I was reviewing an index to land records for Arlington and jotted down all of the entries I could find that included a Hall. As there are many other names here as well, I thought I'd post them to to list. For each entry, there's a name of one party (last name then first name), the name of the second party (also last-first name order), then the volume and page of the deed. To provide a little context, here are the volumes and the dates they cover: Land records, v. 1-3, 1780-1798 Land records, v. 4-6, 1791-1820 Land records, v. 7-9, 1821-1837 Land records, v. 10-11, 1837-1860 Land records, v. 12, 1860-1868 Land records, v. 13, 1869-1878 Land records, v. 14-15, 1878-1884 Please note that the order of the names in a particular entry does not imply which person was the grantor and which was the grantee. I tried to be careful - but these were transcribed twice - once when I jotted them down -- then again when I typed them up - so no guarantees. Just hoping this helps someone. If someone finds an entry they are interested in from volumes 4, 5 or 6, let me know as I currently have that film at my local Family History Center. -- Nancy Barnett Index to Arlington, VT Deeds, Vol I; 1780-1906 (LDS film # 27788) Name 1 Name 2 Vol. Page Hall Burgess Hawley Josiah 1 275 Hall Burgess Squires Gideon 1 276 Hall Burgess Hard? 3. I am searching for divorce records for Lewis LINCOLN and Ruth Phipps [BANNISTER] LINCOLN, in the Pawlett (Rutland Co.) or Pownal (Bennington Co.) area of Vermont. Lewis LINCOLN, b. 16 July 1814, Lanesboro, Berkshire Co., MA, son of Jonathan A. LINCOLN and Diana (Amy/Anne) NORTHRUP. His family removed to Bennington County, VT, and later to Pawlet, Rutland County, VT between 1830-1840, [Lewis's brothers Levi and Alanson LINCOLN had a very successful carriage manufacturing business in Bennington Co.] Ruth Phipps BANNISTER, b. 26 July 1816, Pownal, Bennington Co., VT, dau. of Dr. Cranmer BANNISTER and Tryphosa MANN. Lewis and Ruth were married 10 April 1840 in Lanesborough, Berkshire County, MA., and were the parents of two children: Celestia Tryphosa "Lettie" LINCOLN, b. 14 January 1842 and Fidelia Diana LINCOLN, b. 05 June 1843; both born in Pawlet, Rutland Co., VT. Fidelia died 4 Dec. 1864 in Pawlet, of Diptheria at the age of 21 yrs. Sometime around 1865, Lewis and his daughter "Lettie" removed from VT to IL. Lettie marrying along the way (in Indiana for some reason) to Alonzo RAYNOR of Long Island. They settled in Southern Illinois in Jackson and Alexander Counties. Ruth LINCOLN did not accompany her husband and daughter to Illinois, and apparently stayed in Vermont. In the 1870 Bennington Co., Census, Ruth (54) is listed as living with her sister Juliett BANISTER (56) and her brother Thomas BANISTER. On 4 December 1866, Lewis LINCOLN married Catherine Turner SMITH, a widow, in Cairo, Alexander Co. IL. They had three children between 1866 and 1870. Since Ruth did not pass away until 14 December 1870. She and Lewis must have divorced OR he committed bigamy. Their daughter, Celestia "Lettie" had to have known about the marital status of her parents and apparentley had a good relationship with her father up the the time of his death in 1905. It seems strange to me that she would have accepted the "bigamy" and that is why I feel they must have been divorced. I would greatly appreciate any assistance in finding divorce records for Lewis and Ruth LINCOLN, which would most likely have been in either Bennington or Rutland Counties, VT. Any other information found about this family would be wonderful. Thanks to anyone who can help, Karima --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
