    3. Hello, I am connected to one of the 9 who drowned, also. I'd love to see newspaper accounts, if any come your way. Charlotte Derby, daughter of Charles Rufus Derby and wife Hannah Bowers was about 17 years old when she drowned. She was on her way to Crown Point, NY to see her grandmother Sarah Mills Bowers. I understand there is a group tombstone in the Bridport cemetery. Do you happen to know why John Balch was making the trip? I would think these nine new each other or at least most of them. 3. I believe the stone you are referring to is in Town Line Cemetery in Bridport, about 4 miles north of here. I ran across it when looking for my gggrandparent's, which is near there. As I recall, there were several young women and maybe one man listed, but I couldn't remember if it was a summer or winter date that it happened. If anyone has any details or stories about this incident, I would like to pass them on to our local Bridport Histerical Society. :) Richard Huestis Bridport, Vermont
