    3. I was in Addison County the last week of July researching my NOYES and ESTUS lines in Salisbury and Leicester, and my SOPER and FRANK lines in Lincoln and Ripton. I went to each of the Town Clerks Offices and found the Clerks most accomodating. They all were very friendly and helped any time I got stuck on something I did not understand or if I needed another record to view. This was a great experience for me and I am very glad that I visited these places before going to the Vital Records Department in Middlesex. If you are not sure about the town(s) where your family lived, check the census records. That is how I learned where my ancestors lived in Addison County. Middlesex IS supposed to have copies on microfilm of ALL the town records. I believe they do, and more. In fact, they have so much that I was glad to have been able to narrow the field at the Town Clerks Offices! The State Vital Records Dept has old records grouped into 1760-1870 and 1871-1908. Most of the records in the town offices are kept in ledger-type books. I had copied all I knew were my family there and when I got to Middlesex, I looked up the "Certificates" I wanted and made copies of them. On one entry, I found conflicting information...I haven't figured that one out yet. The certificates are $3.00 each [stamped "for information only"] or around $9.00 for a certified copy. Again, the staff was most helpful. There were some records that I could not find. I am looking forward to going back to Vermont someday, when I can spend more time, and continue my searches! I highly recommend visiting both the Town Clerks and the Vital Records Dept.! And, YES!, Vermont is beautiful...everywhere! Makes me wonder how we got so scattered! _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8: Get 6 months for $9.95/month. http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/dialup
