Records in VT are generally kept at the "town" level--in many states this is the same as township. Each county is subdivided into "Towns" and marriage, birth, death, and land records are kept at these offices. So you need to find out what "town"-ship they were in and most maps do not show this. Calling the courthouse of the county might help. And don't forget it is only a few miles to the next town!! Unfortunately, most births and deaths were not recorded in this period. They were pretty good about recording marriages (if theJP or minister remembered to record it!), Probate records are kept at the county level, but land records are kept at the town level. Supposedly, copies of the marriage, birth, and death records are located in a state office. As one town clerk told me recently, "They are SUPPOSED to have everything we have." This is the address and phone number given me: Division of Public Records, US Route 2-Middlesex, Drawer 33, Montpelier, VT 05633 Phone: 808.828.3286 I have not tried to contact them as yet. If you do, let me know what kind of assistance available. Good luck!! Vermont is beautiful and the people are very nice, but chasing down records is VERY frustrating. If you have any knowledge of where records are kept from the time period of 1801 to > 1829 please forward same to me. Thank you for your consideration.
