Source, Rutland Vt. Herald--Wed.Aug. 11, 1948. BODY OF ORWELL MAN, DUE TODAY IN MIDDLEBURY, VT. MIDDLEBURY, Vt., Aug. 10--The body of 1st Lt. William E. Murray, of Orwell, Vt., who was killed on Luzon on April 27, 1945, will arrive in Middlebury on Wednesday. It will be taken to the Blackmer Funeral home here, where it will remain until the hour of the funeral. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's church in Orwell, Vt. on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., when the Rev.Leo Ecuyer of Bristol, Vt., former pastor of St. Paul's, will sing the high requiem mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Middlebury, where the Brandon, Vt. post of the American Legion will conduct military services. 1st Lt. Murray , a graduate of Cathedral High school in Burlington, Vt., entered the Army on March 27, 1942, He received his commission in February 1943, and in May of that year was sent to the Pacific area in the 32d Infantry division. He participated in four major campaigns on New Guinea, Leyte, and Luzon. On February 3, 1945, he suffered wounds in fighting on Luzon, for which he was hospitalized for six weeks, and was killed in action following his return to duty. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's badge, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross, the last two posthumously. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Wiggins Murray of Rutland, Vt., and Honolulu,Hawaii ; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Murray of Orwell, Vt., ; a sister, Miss Grace Murray of Burlington, Vt. ; four brothers, Paul of Phoenix, Ariz., Howard of Middlebury, Vt., Maxwell of Ithaca, N.Y., and James of Orwell, Vt. ; and two nieces and a nephew.
