Do you know if there are any records re. a Rev. Joseph Sawyer or of other family connection? The following is Sawyer data from The Rev. John Burbank: Baptist Min., Rev. Joseph W Sawyer. " Re: Records for Rev. Joseph Sawyer in Vermont Author: John Burbank Date: 16 Mar 2006 GMT In Reply to: Records for Rev. Joseph Sawyer in Vermont by: Susie Sherman I doubt that you will find any ministerial records of Elder Sawyer. He was a Baptist minister as am I, and personal records aren't often preserved. The official record, of course, is recorded in the town where the wedding took place or from which a license was issued. He served the following churches in VT: South Fairfield 1814, East Hubbardton 1815-27, Whiting 1823-25, Shaftsbury 1839-44, Orwell 1854 and Brandon. Henry Crocker, History of the Baptists in Vermont (1913) doesn't list him as a Whiting pastor but does have I. W. Sawyer listed which may be a typo. There was an Isaac Sawyer but he wasn't in Whiting and I've never seen his middle initial so I. W. very likely is J. W." H. P. Smith, ed., History of Addison County Vermont (Syracuse NY 1886) . P. Smith, ed., History of Addison County Vermont (Syracuse NY 1886) which can be found on line at: www.middlebury.edu/~lib/AddisonCoHistory/DirectoryHAC.html It isn't indexed however but in checking the 1983 Baker index (reprinted in 1999) there are numerous Sawyer references. In the Leicester section you will find Thomas pp. 472, 475-476. Then he is mentioned in Salisbury pp 602, 605, and possibly the same Thomas in Vergennes p. 644. Other Sawyers indexed in other towns are Amos, 458-9; Bela, 264, 278; E.F., 637; E.L., 636; Elizabeth M., xxxii; Ephraim, 436; Gideon, 635; James, 278-9; Jesse, 525; Joseph, 354; Nathan, 497; Mrs. 662; Philetus, 730; and S. 732."
