He was the son of John Britell and Jane Ray. According to my research Claudius was born June 8, 1733. In 1778 he and his son, also named Claudius, were captured by British Tories along with some other men and taken to Quebec during the French and Indian Wars. He returned home 4 years later. There still is a monument that exisits in Weybridge VT. A friend of mine was there a few years ago (1999) and took pictures of it. Weybridge was settled by Claudius Britell along with Thomas Sanford and David Stowe. The Sheldon Museum in Middlebury VT may be helpful in locating the book about Carlton's Raid. Middlebury is very close to the monument. The museum phone number is 802 388-2117. I am related through Claudius Sr. and his daughter Lucy Britell who married Roe Minor. Good luck with your search!
