Source, The Fair Haven Era--Thur. Oct. 7, 1920. BENSON, VT. Dr. Amelia E. Brown died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harvey A. Hulett, September 23 of angina pectoris. She was born in this place, June 26, 1841 and was the daughter of Stephen Waldo and Naomi (Root) Brown. She was educated in the common schools in her native town and at Castleton seminary, and later attended the Woman's Medical college in Philadelphia, graduating in 1883. She practiced in Rutland until failing health in May 1918 caused her to go to the home of her nephew, Rollin C. Brown, in Orwell, where she lived until about a year ago when she returned to the old homestead now occupied by Stephen W. Brown. She is survived by a brother, Luther W. Brown of Fair Haven, six nieces, three nephews and a number of cousins. She was a member of the Congregational church and Rev.David H. Strong, assisted by Rev. Scott F. In my Great Grandmother's obituary that follows, it is reported that she was born in East Wallingford, Vt, lived in Middlebury, Vt. until age 16 when she moved to Port Henry, NY where she met and married John McDonald. I have a possible reference to her parents, Thomas and Honoro (Griffin) Moroney, having emigrating from Ireland to Halifax, Nova Scotia prior to her birth in 1855. I would appreciate any information about any of them. I'm particularly looking to trace the line back to Ireland. Can anyone confirm or deny the Halifax connedtion? Provide a ship name and date? I know many of the people listed as attending from out of town: the Longs and Callanans are relatives of Thomas W. McDonald's wife Helen (Callanan) McDonald; Judge Brewster and his wife are friends of the family. I'd like to know how the others connect on the chance of finding more relatives. Thanks, Michael McDonald Transcribed from http://news.nnyln.net Ticonderoga Sentinel Mrs. Bridget McDonald of Port Henry Died Sunday Mrs. Bridget McDonald, widow of the late John McDonald, passed away at her home on Broad street. Port Henry, Sunday, after an illness of nearly two years. Mrs. McDonald died peacefully, practically sleeping away, being conscious to within an hour of her death. She was born in East Wallingford, Vt., July 19, 1855, the daughter of Thomas and Honoro (Griffin) Moroney. Most of her early life was spent at Middlebury, Vt. When about sixteen years of age she came to Port Henry to reside. On March 29, 1880. she married John McDonald. Her husband passed away December 8, 1924. To this union were born eight children, three of whom survive, one daughter, Mary H., and two sons, James J. and Thomas W., prominent Essex county attorney, and also a brother, Thomas Moroney, of Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. McDonald was a woman of devout Christian character and in whose life charity always came first. She was indeed a friend in need. Her death has left a sorrow to those who were benefited by the richness of her character. The funeral service was held from St. Patrick's church Tuesday morn- ing at nine o'clock, solemn requiem high mass being celebrated by the Very R. F. Pierce. Those from out of town who at- tended the funeral were: Mrs. Mich- ael Moroney and daughter Irene, and Mrs. Thomas Walsh of Rutland, Vt.; Mrs. John F. Kane of Elmhurst, L. I.; Mr. and Mrs. J. J. I recently found out that my ancestor, Anthony Lore married Rachel Levina Hill who was born in 1815 to Joseph Hill and his wife Naby in Bristol Township, Addison County, Vermontt. She married Anthony about 1833 but we don't know where. Their first children were born in NY, then the family migrated on to Warren Co., Pa. for the rest of their lives. Does anyone know anything about this Joseph and his wife. A Joseph appears in the 1820 census, and also in 1830, but in 1840 there are two and in 1850 three, 2 Josephs and a Josephus about the same age, so I can't tell who is who. Also, is Naby a nickname for something else? I've never seen that name before. I have never worked Vermont records before. Are there books published listing things like wills and deeds? If so, where might I find them? Lastly, what county in NY is adjacent to Addison County, Vermont? All help or suggestions appreciated. Bobbi Estes
I'm searching for any information on David Chittenden, born abt 1768, died 1829. He was living in New Haven for the 1800 census, with three sons under 10, and in 1810 and 1820 he was living in Middlebury. He may or may not have had two wives, first a Betsy and then Ruth. Ruth was living with son Nelson in 1850 and there was another Chittenden, David W, on the same census page. Basically I'm trying to link my ancestor Myron or Miron Chittenden to David. I recieved information some time ago that Miron was David's son but that it couldn't be proved because the courthouse in Middlebury burned down. Any information on David will be gratefully recieved! I've found him mentioned a couple of times in the Addison county history that is online through Middlebury college, but no mention of wives or children. Thanks, Lynn Chittenden Hohler
Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Thur.Aug. 16, 1917. Page 1. MIDDLEBURY, VT. FRED NASH TAKES LIFE WITH RIFLE. Ill, He Commits Act at Home of Mother-in- Law in Town of Salisbury. Aug. 15--Fred Nash, about 30 years old, shot and killed himself about 7:30 o'clock this evening at the home of his mother-in- law, Mrs. Ansel Kenley on the Salisbury road, about 6 miles from this town. Ill health is given as his motive. Until a few weeks ago Nash had conducted a barber shop in the Cobb block in this village, but he had to give up the business owing to ill health. Nash left home this afternoon for Middlebury carrying with him in his buggy a shotgun and a Winchester 30 calibre carbine. He returned home shorty before 7 o'clock, the guns still being in his wagon. He called to his wife to get a grip for him as he was going back to Middlebury. A thunder shower was approaching and he drove to the barn and unharnessed his horse, moving another so that he could get his buggy under cover. Apparently he then took the carbine from its case and shot himself through the heart, dying instantly. Transcribed by, Joan H. Bixby

I am pretty sure its because of the spelling and enunciation of the census taker. (I don't think I would of done any better spelling some of the names either). Dorothea
