    1. [VTADDISO] Hobbs of Addison Co. VT and Benjamin Hobbs, Clinton Co. NY
    2. Jo Boroff
    3. Jean, Going over my family group for Isaac and Susannah Smith Hobbs of Waltham, I find none of their children as a Benjamin. In addition, it appears that your Benj would be born too late to be their child. I know their last child was Solomom, b: c 1782. He did not have a son Benjamin. But there are 5 other sons which I have no descendants for at this time. The sons, in order, are Elijah, Isaac, Munson, Samuel, Humphrey. The first three were probably old enough to have a Benjamin b: c 1794. I know Elijah left the area sometime after 1815. Some of his brothers may have joined him. I am working on following through on these descendants but don't have anything to share with you yet. Below you have given enough to make some comparisons when new facts come forward. Hoping we find the connections, ...Jo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean Coyne" <DCOYNE@twcny.rr.com> To: <RMorsevt@aol.com>; <vtaddiso@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2007 3:26 PM Subject: [VTADDISO] HOBBS > I'd like to jump in with my own HOBBS ancestors. 1. [VTADDISO] Isaac Hobbs & dtr Sarah Hobbs Stow of Waltham & Weybridge, VT c 1790+
    2. Jo Boroff
    3. Isaac Hobbs and Susannah Smith were married in Topsfield, MA 13 May 1766. They had their first 8 children christened in Topsfield. The family came to Waltham, Addison Co., VT by the 1790 census and the children were raised in or lived in the area. My ancestor was their 4th known child, Elizabeth Hobbs (1773-1850) who married John Britell of Weybridge, VT. I have quite a bit of data on this line and the Britell family. I would like to learn more about the rest of the Hobbs family. So far, I have the Hobbs children as: Sarah b: Nov 1766; Elijah b:Jan 1768; Priscilla b: May 1769; Elizabeth b: Jun 1773; Munson b: Mar 1775; Samuel b: Dec 1776; Susanna b: Apr 1778; Humphrey b: Sep 1779; Solomon b: abt 1782. I believe that Sarah Hobbs (1766-1823) m: Clark Stow (1762-1839) of this area. Is this Clark Stow the s/o the Clark Stow who was taken prisoner to Canada during Carlton's Raid on the Otter Creek settlements? Are there any known children from this marriage? Did descendants from this marriage remove to Iosco Co., Michigan? I find a communication between Asel Stow of Iosco Co. and John Sturtevant of Royalton Twp, Fulton Co., OH, dated Aug 1853. John Sturtevant is my great grandfather and his wife Lucy Britell was the daughter of Elizabeth Hobbs Britell of Weybridge. In another letter, Lucy's niece, Ella Blood, refers to Aunt Luanna Stow, who is Asel's wife and lived to an old age in MI. Any help on the marriage date and family members of Sarah Hobbs and Clark Stow would be greatly appreciated. ...Jo joboroff@verizon.net

    2. Jo Boroff
    3. Bob, I have a 1934-35 copy of the VTNSDAR reading of the Azro Stowe Place cemetery, Vol.4, p.170. It lists no Eames but mentions a Wm. Haven d: June 3rd 1824 age 74 yrs; Lucy Haven wife of Wm. Died Apr. 11th 1842 age 85. This entire listing only has 16 entries. My ancestors John and Elizabeth Brittell/Britell are buried here. John's parents are Claudius and Elthire/Alathier Owen Britell/Brittain. I do not know where either is buried nor have an exact death date for either. It seems fitting that they should be near the Weybridge Monument but.... This cemetery is indeed on private property right on the Otter Creek. It's possible that floods in previous years could have washed out some earlier burials. It's also possible that the pioneer couple Britell could be buried on the homestead farm, which was right across the creek from the Stow place. There is a cemetery called New Haven Cemetery. I do not see any of your subjects listed there but there is a Mary Havens, w/o James Sturtevant (1812-4/5/1849) later w/o Daniel Taft (1808-1868), listed as 1813-1885. It's likely that the boundary change between 1790 and 1800 census may affect your research since part of then New Haven on the north side of Otter Creek became part of Weybridge. Early records, if they exist, may be under New Haven.
