    1. [VTADDISO] Isaac Hobbs 1815 murder
    2. Jo Boroff
    3. A few weeks ago a fellow Hobbs researcher sent me some extractions of newspaper releases and summary of the court case involving the murder of Isaac Hobbs of Waltham, d: 5 June 1815, apparently the day of his attack by a son-in-law named Selah Hickok or Selah Hancock, his surname spelled both ways, about age 43, married to Sarah, who is supposed to have divorced him in 1822. The extraction is rather cryptic but it looks like the court proceedings may have started in 6/1815, Selah was indicted for murder and looks like found guilty of manslaughter to serve 13 years. Then it looks like he was pardoned 10/1820. The Source for the court case is written: Sup. Ct., 3: 128 J. of the Gen. Ass., 1815, 194. I have no idea how to interpret this and then where to go to read the whole thing. Help! In addition, this event was posted in the Vermont Mirror (Middlebury) 6/7 & 7/12/1815 New Hampshire Gazette, 6/20/1815 and maybe in Farmer's Cabinet 1815: 6/24 Is anyone able to locate copies of any of these news articles? I'm hoping the Middlebury paper might be microfilmed or digitized. The real problem with this news is that Isaac did have a dtr named Sarah. But she was married to Clark Stow of Weybridge well before and after the date of this tragic event. The name Selah Hickok/Hancock is totally new to me and I have yet to find this name associated with any of my Addison Co. surnames. I really need some advise about how to continue with researching and verifying the above. ...Jo Boroff joboroff@verizon.net All the above came from Vermont Homicides and Suspicious Deaths, 1760-1815, Ver. of Mar, 2002. cjrc.osu.edu/hvd/dbfiles/newengland/vermont_homicides_1760-1815_3-2002.doc This is a Word file that downloads from the Ohio State Univ. Criminal Justice Research Center. It is a preliminary worksheet, so it's pretty "ruf". There are other files on this site--if you start from the home cjrc.osu.edu work your way to the research links.

    2. Hi Richard, Been a while since we chatted. I have all these people listed in my family tree works, and extended branches and twigs. Do you have more database information on other connections as well? I did write your sister who lives about 4-5 miles from me, but have not heard anything from her. Last I remember, she did not know how extensive my book was about, however, it is extensive and I am incorporating as much family connective information as I can. If you remember, we were talking about the Blacklocks at the time. If you or she have GEDCOM on the family branches, I would appreciate sharing. At present I am over 260,000 names linked. More keeps coming and I appreciate all the help. If you can supply input/data I would be most greatful, not only on these persons listed in your email, but others as well. Thanks, Bill Rotax, Syracuse, NY Searching: BARTON, JEWELL, JEWEL, BULL, PALMER, RUSSEL-RUSSELL, ROUSEL-ROUSSEL, CARPENTER, CARPENTIER, LAPOINT-LAPOINTE, WHITNEY, WITNEY, PECK, AND MORE My paternal grandmother was Eula Carpenter 1885-1967 m.
