I have just started to research the Joseph Williams family in Shoreham because Sarah listed in the census that her father was born in VT and her mother in Massachusetts which would be a match with Joseph Williams and Molly Gray. All I can find about their children is that they had a son Lamson/Lampson born in 1804 in Vermont. Do you know if Lamson had any siblings? DO you know where Lamson lived---all I have seen is Illinois for the 1850 census and that he died in Fort Scott Kansas. I know Sarah was born in NY in 1806 and she married Joel Doolittle (whose father Ephraim lived in Shoreham VT around 1790-1800) but they married 3 July 1828 in Preble County Ohio. Joel, his brother Josiah and their nephew Loyal lived in Essex and Genesee Counties NY after leaving Vermont. They all ultimately settled in Indiana (although Josiah moved on to Iowa.) Do you have any leads that might connect Sarah Williams to this Williams family? Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, I didn't find Susanna in H. P. Smith, ed., History of Addison County Vermont (Syracuse NY 1886) which can now be viewed on-line at: http://www.middlebury.edu/lis/lib/guides_and_tutorials/guides_to_collections/collection_guide-vermont/internet_resources/history_addison_county/ John Stearns of Monkton is found on p. 514 where it mentions he arrived in 1774 along with Ebenezer Stearns (also pp.519, 520). They settled just south of the Hinesburg line but were broken up by the Revolution. Your John might be the John on p. 525 in New Haven. Then there is a John, son of Joseph Stearns mentioned in Middlebury on p. 248 probably around 1800. Exact date not given. She was dau of Daniel Barton b 7 Jun 1819 and Mary S. Bull, dau of Aaron Bull & Philadelphia Knowles. Daniel was son of Aaron Barton & Anna Guernery Varney. I have a copy of the photograph of Aaron Barton, as an elderly man. He was brother of James Barton, my gggrandfather. Aaron moved to E. Farnham Quebec. Unfortunately, I do not have a photograph of James Barton! They were sons of Solomon Barton and 2nd wife Phebe Quimby, dau of Aaron Quimby & Elizabeth Cornell. Phebe's parents gave about 400 acres in Monkton VT to them when Solomon's business failed and the family moved there from Dutchess Co NY. Solomon was son of Caleb Barton & Rose (?Palmer). Caleb was son of Joseph Barton and (3rd?) wife Abigail Lewis. Joseph was son of Roger Barton and Mary Loundsberry. Roger was son of Capt. Edward Barton, son of Capt. Thomas Barton. Joseph and Abigail were Presbyterians. It seems ! that from Caleb through Aaron and James the family tended to be Quaker during every generation. I have no information on the Miles family. There are entries in James Barton's blacksmith account book for John Miles and Ransom Miles. Please write me at ivjuma@aol.com if you want that information. You didn't mention a place name. My family descended from Roger Barton - NY to VT to PA. You may want to research the July 1952 issue of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register for the Barton ancestry according to George E. McCracken of Drake University, which begins: "Our earliest ancestor in America was Captain Edward Barton (his father named Thomas). Edward brought his family from England and settled in the Barbados Islands. His two sons, Rufus and Roger, came to Manhattan about 1641. Rufus shortly afterward went into the English Colony at Providence Rhode Island, and was the founder of the Barton family in that area."
