Other account books may exist, but this was the only known one at the time I photocopied it for my own use in the 1970's. The current location of the original book is unknown. Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Wed. Apr. 29, 1891. LEICESTER, Vt. The Ladies Cemetery association will hold its first spring meeting May 1, with Mrs. Ned Barker. Arbor day will be observed at Leicester Corners by planting trees and otherwise beautifying the common. A dinner will be served in the town hall. All are invited. A. E. Stanley is sick with the grip. Miss Fanny Rogers, a daughter of Caleb Rogers, died April 31 of consumption. She was the last of three children that have died of consumption within three years. Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Sat. Dec. 14, 1946. ORWELL, VT. Herbert Ballard, 50, in Critical Condition in Rutland Hospital. Dec.13--Struck by an automobile as he was walking along the highway 500 feet from is home, Herbert Ballard, 50, Orwell woodcutter, was critically injured late this afternoon and rushed to the Rutland hospital for treatment. According to a motor vehicle inspector the operator of the vehicle was Miss Ruth Goddard of Orwell, Hubbardton school teacher. The accident happened about 5:30 o'clock on the main highway in Brandon, one mile east of Orwell village. Ballard was struck by the right fender of the couple. Given first aid treatment by Dr. Paul Lawrence of Brandon, Ballard was taken by ambulance to Rutland. Riding with him in the ambulance was his wife, the former Miss Florence Bullock of Wallingford. Source, Rutland Daily Herald--Mon. April 27, 1891. VERGENNES, VT. The funeral of the daughter of Frank Hodson, aged 5, who died Friday at Fair Haven, where the family live, was held here Saturday, Rev. H. G. Pillsbury, officiating. A meeting of the commissioners of the estate of Jedd Rock who committed suicide last winter, will be held at Solon Burrough's office May 2. James Cole and Harry Bradford of Middleboro, Mass., horse buyers, arrived at the Stevens house Saturday, where they will be till next Saturday. Saturday, market day, butter brought 22-23 c., eggs 13 c., dressed poultry 13 to 16 c. D. A. Noonan shipped a car of cows to Boston market Monday, and G. H. Sprigg & Co. shipped car of calves Friday.
