    2. This school in Vergennes was called the Weeks School years ago, It is now called the Northland Jobs Corp Campus. Vermont Department of Corrections might have archived records from the old Weeks School or the records maybe maintained right on campus??? Its worth a try. 3. Hi again again, I looked at the Census records for the Preston family. Lewis Preston was born 1802-1804. in 1850 he appears with his with Mary age 36 and 9 children. I , cannot find the family ( except for a son born 1824) on the 1860 census. (still in Fair Haven, Rutland VT.) The older Lewis appears again on the 1870 census and 1880 censuses apparently living with his son. His wife Mary and other children appear to have disappeared from the rqadar after 1850. New Brunswick is canada east by the way. alice ---- "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: maela40 > Surnames: Ploof,Zubar > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.vermont.counties.addison/3096.1.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Thank you for the reply. > > I'm searching for a Sarah Ann Preston. She was an adopted child.Marriage license states her maiden name was Zubar of Ferrisburg,Vermont.Married Abraham Ploff(Ploof)of Colchester,Vermont on May 17,1858 in the state of Vermont by John Chase Minister of the gospel.Witnesses were:Joseph Norman and Mary Seguin. > > Thanks. > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi again, On the 1880 census I find Sarah and Abraham Ploof. Sarah WAS born in 1835.What makes you think that she was placed in the orphanage? I know that some children that could not be cared for were placed there - if the father or mother died - but they were often let out as hired hands too. I see Sarah Preston with her family in 1850, but at 15 she would be a little old for the orphanage - ( Orphans age 10 and up were often sent out as maids or farm hands back them - ) Some of my family ended up in the orphange in Burligton, but they were under the age of 10 - I need more info on why you think that she was in an orphanage or why she was adopted. Thanks Alice ---- "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 3. Hi - You have caught my interewst because of my connection with the Preston family also.(like Michael Hunter ) I found a Sarah Preston born in 1835 - in a large Preston family in Fair Haven Rutland County in 1850. With 8 living siblings - I would not think that she was adopted. This family came from Canada East - they could be Irish or they could be French passing for Yankees. Could the name possibly been changed from Zubar to Preston? My Cyr became Sears in Vermont - Alice ---- "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Her gravestone lists her birthplace as Cumberland, Rhode Island, but I have not been able to find her birth record there. There is a Micah Sheldon who lives in New Haven and Weybridge in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 censuses, but I can't find any info for him, so I'm just assuming that he's a relation to Clarissa.
