He was the son of Daniel and Jerusha (Eaton) Blanchard. ABIAL was married to HANNAH GRAY about 1795 in Wilton, Hillsbourgh County, New Hampshire. They had 6 children. 1) Ashsah b. 1797 Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont, 2) Hannah b. 1798 (IGI records show 1789 and I think they have transposed) in Ferrisburg Addison County, Vermont or Landgrove, Bennington County, Vermont, 3) Abiel b. 1795 or 1799 in Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont or Wilton, Hillsbourgh, New Hampshire, 4) Hermon b. 1800 in Landgrove, Bennington, Vermont, 5) Reuben b. 1802 in Ferrisburg, Addison County, Vermont or Landgrove, Bennington County, Vermont, 6) Clerry (I have no information for Clerry). Hannah apparently died between 1802 and 1808. Abial married PATIENCE VARNEY about 1808 in Berwick, Maine. They had five children 1) Abel b. about 1809, 2) Ezra b. 1811 in Vermont 3) Lucy b. about 1813 4) Amos b. 1815 in Pennsylvania. There is an Abel Blanchard in the 1810 census in Charollette County, Crittenden, Vermont. The number of children and ages are almost the same as Abiel's family and this family does not appear in the 1820 census. Patience Varney appears in 1820 in the Clermont County, Ohio census. A lot of the information I have is from letters written to the Clermont County Ohio Library seeking information about this family, so I am not able to clearly link this family to my husband's great-great grandmother who was the daughter of Amos Blanchard. Amos moved from Clermont to Jennings County, Indiana.

The information on the children comes from rootsweb and the site has many sources but I noticed a few mistakes while researching. Much of the cemetery information is incorrect. Rosanna is listed as buried in Beers Cemetery, however. The site states she married Ira before 1818. This may be based on children's ages and incorrect information about the children's mothers. Thanks again, Jody

I was surprised that the infant son was of Rev. Ira and SUSANNA and not Rosanna. According to my info. Ira had 8 children from the years 1809 - 1825. Only his first 2 children were by Susanna. Rosanna was suppose to have been the mother of the other 6!! Now I have to wonder if Susanna was the mother of all 8 children because this son was born abt. 1831 and Rosanna died in 1832. I have documents for Ira's other two wives whom he married after 1832. Thank-you for this interesting news! Jody

Can you pleased tell me if there are any Bonner or Deyette listed in Addison Co. in Smith's book? I have been unable to find my gg-grandfather's parents or siblings. The family bible states his father was John Boner/Bonner. Alfred's first wife was Solina/Celina (maybe last name of Deyette) who he married around 1859 to 61. He entered the army in 1861 at Cornwall, but was living in Heinsburg. I checked the 1850 & 1860 census for Addison Co. but did not find any Boner/Bonner families. Thank you for your time. Harding, pastor of the church, will conduct the service, and burial will be made at Pleasantview cemetery, Valley Springs. Mrs. Stearns was 93 years, four months and 15 days old when she died, Saturday morning. The cause of her death was pernicious anemia from which she had been suffering for several months. She leaves, besides her daughter, one son, Charles, who came from his Oklahoma home in time for the funeral. >From the Sioux Falls Daily Argus Leader Dated Tuesday March 21, 1922 Typed just ass is appeared in original newspaper, including any/all typos. EARLY PIONEER PASSES BEYOND Death Takes J. H. Stearns – Lived on Homestead 51 Years- Married 67 Years (Special to the Argus Leader) Valley Springs, March 20. – The funeral of the late J. H. Stearns, of this town, took place Saturday afternoon at the Frank Pinney home, in charge of Rev. J. D. Whitelaw, of the Federated Church. A choir composed of Miss R. H. Palmer, Mrs. P. N. Dixon, Ben Spies and Wesley Percival, sang some of the favorite hymns of the deceased, " God Will Take Care of You," and " In The Sweet By and By." The pallbearers were the following, who are all grandsons of the deceased: Harry, Allen and Ralph Stearns: Leroy and Chester Pinney, of this place: and Gilbert Stearns, of Luverne, Minn. Interment was made in Pleasantview cemetery, overlooking this village. There were many handsome floral offerings, one in the shape of a sheaf of ripe wheat, having been sent in by the grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Stearns, of Luverne, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gibson, of Beaver Creek, Minn., were among the out-of-town people present. *Joseph Harris Stearns was born in Middlebury, Vt., Jan. 16, 1832*, and died at Valley Springs Friday, March 17, 1922 being 90 years old. At the age of six he moved with his family to Cornwall, Vt., and attended the public schools there, and worked with his father on the farm and also at the carpenter's trade until 1854, when he lived in a home of his own. He carried out both occupations in the same town until 1872, when he came to Bever Creek, Minn., and took up a homestead of 160 acres in Rock county. Here he lived for 51 years. In 1912, owing to poor health, he moved to this town and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pinney, the later being his daughter. On Dec. 21, 1954, Mr. Stearns was married to Amanda Ella Smith, of Ticonderoga, N. Y., who survives him. This relationship lasted 67 years, and their married life was an ideal one from every point of view. Six children were born to them. Three of them, Flora, 14: George, 11, and Edith, two and a half years old, died of diphtheria in the winter of 1874. The others are: Willis J., of Manley, Minn., Chas E., of Luverne, Minn. and Mrs. Frank Pinney, of this place. >From the early days of his life here Mr. Stearns was interested in all public affairs. He took a great interest in the schools, was a member of the school board of his township, acting as treasurer several times, and was also a member of the town board. He was a good husband and father, a most obliging neighbor. His home was noted for its kindly and unfailing hospitality, and all who called always felt at home there. He was a great reader: for many years he took several of the leading magazines and several dailies, besides farm publications: and he never failed to read some of the most famous books of the year. He was a most interesting man to meet and with whom to converse on current topics, as he was well read and well informed. In 1889 he joined the Congregational church of Valley Springs, now the Federated church, and in 1893 became one of its deacons and held office continuously. His life was quiet, unostentatious, devoid of loud pretensions to religiously, yet he gave the example of a consistent, christian life by word and conduct. Of late years his hearing had become quite defective, and his eye-sight greatly impaired. Yet, deprived as he was of his favorite pastime, reading and the pleasure of talking with friends, he preserved his sweetness of spirit, never complaining and making the best of everything. One of his favorite Bible verses was, "The eternal God is thy dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms." And he lived and died in the spirit and hope of the words. Volunteer posting
