Surnames: Darling, Dean Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nAC.2ACI/1293.1 Message Board Post: Dear Everyone, The Charles and Lysander spoke of in this posting I am replying to are the nephews of Nelson Darling in the 1860 Census Records. Charles and Lysander had a father named Charles who we believe died at Wounded Knee in 1866. I am in communication with Sioux Indians to help with this research. The Lysander you refer to is my great-great-grandfather. Lysander was married to a Mary Dean. This Lysander according to legend worked with Teddy Roosevelt in the building of the Panama Canal. He also was the Head Captain of the boats on the waterways during prohibition. This Lysander was raised by Sioux Indians and then by 1880 was back in Brownsville, MN living with his cousin Albert Darling. If you look at the 1860 and 1870 and 1880 Census records for Nelson and Albert and Lysander this will help.

    3. Hello, I am a volunteer at the Henry Sheldon Museum in Middlebury Vermont where we have many old manuscripts and records pertaining to Addison County. I found a letter written by Rev. Joseph Sawyer in 1850 to a Mr. Walker where he talks about his time in Whiting etc. This letter was written from out of state. If you would like a copy of this letter you need to request it through the Museum. Their number in the Research Center is 802-388-2117 and their website is henrysheldonmuseum.org. The research librarian is Jane Ploughman. Just thought you might like this info.
