    1. Keeler family in Ferrisburg area
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Keeler, Redd, Hardison, Hancock, Brandley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nAC.2ACI/1730 Message Board Post: Hi, Our ancestors, James and his father George are said to have been born in Ferrisburg, Addison, Vermont. I had a lady do a look-up for me there, and there were no Keelers. Is anyone familiar with this line? She said there isn't a place to look up records for the county. Supposedly there are 3 or 4 Ralph's, then Jonathan, then George, then, our James. We think they may have been born in Monkton, which is close the Ferrisburg, but it is just a gut feeling(they later named a new town Monkeytown). We are trying to prove James' parentage, so we need this information. Does anyone have any suggestions, or is anyone familiar with this area that might know old churches to look at for christenings? Thanks, Becky

As I was researching it tonight on Google, I found it was established in 1875 (another site said 1865) as the Vermont Reform School for Troubled Youth and later renamed the Vermont Industrial School in 1898. The school was located in Vergennes (on North Water Street per 1930 census) and housed on a campus with buildings dating from 1828 (the old U.S. Arsenal) to the 1960s. Job Corps now provides residential vocational training programs on the site. I, too, have an geneology query re: this info and the census listing of their "inmates" as I have a great aunt named "Lenora Barrey" (also listed as Lenora Barskey) who was listed there in the 1930 census, but I've found her in no other census records. Might she have died there...I'm wondering where to go for verification of this possible happening or if she was ever released? Sems she's vanished into "thin air"... Could you help me? Many thank yous!

    3. Hi Donna, yes I have 2 George Doanes at the same time in Shoreham,BUT they are father +son. Jean M "Donna K. Vaughn" <dkvaughn@nycap.rr.com> wrote: I think what you suggest about Fanny being unmarried when she had Frank is certainly a possibility. Perhaps her maiden name is Knight. Family history and lore supports that Fanny Knight Doane was definitely Frank Knight's mother, however. I need to find out where & when Fanny Knight Doane died. The last record I have of her is 1880 when she was living in Sudbury with her husband George Doane and the Doane children. Middlesex Vermont was unable to locate further vital records on her (past the date of George's death in 1888). The Doane children's birth records list Fanny's maiden name as Knight, or it was blank; and her place of birth in various records is listed as Vermont or New York or even Connecticut. Very confusing. Thanks so much for your help and suggestions, Joann. Thanks to you, too, Jeanne--is this the book by Susan MccIntire? I corresponded with her about the entry you mention, as it erroneously lists George as being married twice, when actually there were 2 separate George Doane families in Shoreham at the same time. 1. Willard W. Daniels and Alonza P. Daniels; Bristol, Addison, Vt. 1850

    3. Hello! I just discovered my Willard Daniels in the 1850 Census and was quite surprised to find the following information: 3Aug 1850 HH# 57 62 Daniels, Willard William 29 merchant Vt. , Lucy (Rider) 30 Vt. Magill?, Marinia? female 28 Ireland HH# 58 63 Daniels, Alonzo (P.) 25 merchant Vt. , Ann 27 Vt. , Clementine 73 male laborer N. H. , Susan 63 N. H. , Sarah 27 Vt. ********** I believe that Clementine and Susan are Willard's parents, Clement Daniels and Susanna Richards and have no idea of Willard and Alonzo's relationship. It would seem they would be brothers but I have a list of Clement and Susana children and Alonzo isn't listed. On-line information suggests that Alonza was a son of a Samuel Daniels so it is possible that Clement and Samuel were brothers? Does anyone have any idea who the parents of Clement and/or Samuel was? I keep running across an Ebenezer Daniels that could possibly be the father and Willard and Lucy (Rider) named their son Ebenezer. I did a search of all Daniels in Addison County, Vt. in 1850 and got 64 hits so any help in sorthing these people out would be appreciated. Thank you, Marie

    3. Do you suppose that Fanny was not married when her son was born? Or maybe she wasn't his mother at all, and whoever gave the information when Frank died, didn't really know the names of his parents? Did you ever find an obituary for Fanny (Knight) Doane? Maybe that would give some information. Maybe trace her Doane kids and see if any of them have obituaries that mention a brother Frank Knight? 1. Essex NY to Vermont, Shortsleeves
    2. Tammy Grube
    3. My great grandmother, Ella Shortsleeves was born in North Hudson, NY in 1886 but moved to Lincoln, Vermont with her Mom(Julia) and siblings sometime after her birth and 1900 where Julia is now married to Edward Grimes. Ella's father was Joseph Shortsleeves. Do any of these names ring a bell? What happened to Joseph? What was Julia's maiden name? Possibly something close to "Latrell"? Thank you, Tammy Wells Grube Morrisville, Vermont On 6/14/06, Jill J Hernandez <kpitblu@cox.net> wrote: > Go to this site and see the maps > > > MANY of the Addison Co residents had ties to Essex Co., NY > > Jill > > > > > ==== VTADDISO Mailing List ==== > To subscribe or unsubscribe from this list use the following: > VTADDISO-l-request@rootsweb.com > Put either the word, subscribe, or unsubscribe in the subject line and body of the message. > > ============================== > Find your ancestors in the Birth, Marriage and Death Records. > New content added every business day.
