For Joann Nichols Thank you for posting the information on this database. I've been researching for some time and seem to have missed this great source of information. Thank you! I don't understand your question. People were warned out when they first came to a town to let them know that if they couldn't make it on their own, the town wouldn't be responsible for them. Joel Bartum is in the 1800 census in Weybridge with one male under 10, one male 26-45, one female under 10 and one female 16-26. Hi again, I went online to the Vermont Secretary of State, Nye Database, which is only up to 1800 online. In there is Joel Bartram, who signed a petition for removal of dams at Vergennes Falls, dated 18 Oct. 1799. If you wanted to see if there was anything for later than 1800, contact them at archives@sec.state.vt.us. The URL for the present database is http://vermont-archives.org then click on Nye database. Good luck, Joann Nichols Patti Waitman-Ingebretsen wrote: > The ONLY thing I can find about my ancestor in 1820 Addison, Weybridge > was the census- > Any ideas as to why I find no refernce of this family??? > Very frustrating! > > My ancestor, John BARTRAM (any spelling) > 1820 Addison, Weybridge, VT > > son Orange C. b abt 1817 VT > Nathaniel b 1820 VT > > moved to Franklin, Fairfield, VT by 1824 > > thanks, > Patti >
Hi, Patti, In Vermont Warnings Out, Vol. 1, by Alden Rollins, page 80 of the Weybridge Land Records section has an entry for David Bartram being warned out on 9 June 1813; there is also a Joel Bartman[?] on that same date. This is in Land Records, Vol. 4, 1812-1818, page 22. Hope this helps, Joann Nichols Patti Waitman-Ingebretsen wrote: > The ONLY thing I can find about my ancestor in 1820 Addison, Weybridge > was the census- > Any ideas as to why I find no refernce of this family??? > Very frustrating! > > My ancestor, John BARTRAM (any spelling) > 1820 Addison, Weybridge, VT > > son Orange C. b abt 1817 VT > Nathaniel b 1820 VT > > moved to Franklin, Fairfield, VT by 1824 > > thanks, > Patti >

The birth record, if it exists, should be at the New Haven Town Clerk's office. You may also be able to find those records, through the tapes that can be rented (cheaply) from your local LDS Family center. I have accessed many records from New Haven thru those folks. The following information comes from the book "A History Of New Haven In Vermont" by Harold Farnsworth. It gives some basic info on CHAPMAN surnames in New Haven. Erastus CHAPMAN (1760-1821); wife Polly Huntington (1765-1848). Revolutionary soldier; called Captain; Higway surveyor 1813; Congregational Prudential Comm. 1866. Rodman CHAPMAN (1796-1880) son of Erastus; wife Cleora S. Fillmore (1801-1873) dau. of Lavius and Philura (Hartshorn). Hayward 1820; Congregational Society Committee on ringing bell 1833, treasurer 1834-35, janitorial service 1833-35, pew owner 1839. Temperance Society Officer 1835. Wightman CHAPMAN (1786-1869) son of ERastus; wife Nancy Squier (1787-1811) Dau. of Andrew; wife Anna Wilson (1797-1860); Hayward 1808; meeting house pew owner 1810; subscr. 1816. The book also lists, and shows homes, that Rodman and Erastus Chapman lived in at different time periods, as well as the home location of a Thad and Jessie CHAPMAN in 1899. Other details derived from the book, include a blacksmith shop on Cemetery Road operated by Rodman Chapman CA 1820. It also mentions that on North Street "Rodman Chapman's distillery prospered in the days before tempersance mania". I hope that searching more on some of those names might lead to a link to your brick wall. By the way, I don't believe that registering births of children was required yet, in that date period, although some families did file the information with the town clerk, the next time they had business at the clerk's office. It appears that they were members of the Congregational Church (probably only one in New Haven), and baptism records may be available even if a birth certificate is not. a native Vermonter lost in Texas Gene Warner
