I have just begun detailed research on the Gideon SAGE family that moved to Middlebury, Addison, VT sometime prior to 1790 from Connecticut. Things are a bit minimal right now but I did find Gideon in the 1790 census the families of Gideon, David and Eleazur (Elizur) SAGE in the 1800 census for Middlebury, Addison, VT. According to my research so far everything seems to fit except the first child of David and Melissa appears to be a girl. I have no record of a child born before 1806. The four children (all unverified at this point) that I have found so far are: Alma (b. 1806), George (b. 1810), Elizur (b. 1812) and David B (b. 1818) - all in Addison. He was in and out of Vermont on censuses from 1790 through 1840. He also owned property in Crown Point, Essex Co., N.Y. He is on 1830 census Bridport, Addison Co., VT., where he also operated a ferry. He appears to be the Samuel Ramey in Panton, Vt., on the 1840 census. He must have died after 1840 as he was quite elderly at that time. He appears to have done business in New Haven, VT., at which time it appears his wife left him. Her name was Polly. If this ties into any information you may have, I would be most grateful to know. I just have not been able to tie down any of his personal life. Thank you so much.
