    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nAC.2ACI/1457 Message Board Post: I'm happy to announce a new Special Project, the Vermont Family Group Sheet (FGS) project. It's my privilege to be managing it, and I hope to be very busy adding family group sheets submitted by all of you. The URL for the page is http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/vermont/. I think you'll find the page easy to read and use, but if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. The USFGS home page ( http://www.rootsweb.com/~usfgs/ ) links to all the states that have a family group project. I hope you'll take advantage of this new project. Those of us who have been working to bring it to Vermont are very excited about its possibilities. Any family group that lived in Vermont, even for a short time, can be posted. THE ONLY VERMONTANS WHO CANNOT BE POSTED ARE THOSE WHO ARE LIVING. Each family group sheet provides space for basic information about father, mother, and children; so if you only know about one family unit, you know enough to put the information up. If you know more, you can add more family group sheets: the father's parents and siblings, the mother's parents and siblings, the children's spouses and children, and on and on. If you've traced the family on into Kansas, Colorado, and Oregon, you can post your group sheet in those states as well as Vermont. But just one family sheet in one state can be enough to make new and exciting connections. We've prepared the pages and forms, added search engines and links, and now it's in your hands. Send in your family group sheets. One a day, one a week, whatever works for you. Tell your fellow researchers about the site. Talk about it at your next genealogical society meeting. Mention it in your emails. The more people hear about the site, the more contributions we're likely to get; and the more contributions we receive, the more valuable the project is going to be. I'll be waiting for your family to turn up in my mailbox! I went to your message and I think I'm talking to 2 different people. There are a few John Henry Rodds. The one you have at Chicopee Falls, John Henry Rodd, was married to Addie Buel, and I also have him being married to Malvina Martel. According to somewhat questionable Rodd records (someone added information in the Whitehall genealogy records) John Henry and Malvina had Edward, Josephine, Emma, Rosie, Theodore and Henry. I don't have any children by Addie Buel. Joseph married Charlotte and the one child I have was Marie Rodd (1858). Adolphus married Frances and had Helen (1854). Helen Rodd married Peter Manell. We'd have to coordinate one family by one family, and compare the census' on the family, but would appreicate any input you can provide. According to records, there were three John Henry Rodds, but I believe there was only one. Ray

    2. Source, Rutland Vt.Herald--Fri.July 6, 1917. DYNAMITE CAPS BLOW BOY'S HAND TO PIECES. Howard McCarthy is Seriously Hurt at Home of J. C. Thomas in Orwell. Orwell, Vt., July 5--Howard McCarthy, about 10 years old, who came from the orphans' home at Burlington a short time ago to spend the summer at the home of J. C. Thomas, was seriously and perhaps fatally injured this afternoon by what is supposed to have been one or more dynamite caps. Three fingers and the thumb of the left hand were later amputated and the boy's body was peppered from head to foot by pieces of copper, presumably pieces of the caps. Mr. Thomas had some dynamite caps in the house and it is supposed the boy found them. Many party burned matches were found near the scene of the accident. Mr. Thomas heard the explosion in the rear of one of his barns and rushed to the spot, finding the boy covered with blood. A hurry call was sent for Dr. G.H. Coffey, who was on the scene within a few minutes. After stopping the flow of blood from the arteries the doctor hurried the boy and Mr. Thomas to this village where D. L. Wells was waiting in his Overland touring car. All members of the party were take to the hospital at Ticonderoga, N. Y., as quickly as possible and the boy was operated upon at once. It was found necessary to amputate three fingers and the thumb of the left hand, the flesh being badly torn from the hand. The front of the body and especially the abdomen were pierced by bits of copper, a large number of pieces being removed by the surgeons. Dr. Coffey stated tonight that the boy had about an even chance for recovery.
