    1. [VT-Old-News] Alford , Castleton, Vt.
    2. Source,Rutland Vt.Herald--Fri.April 10,1908. HAVE BEEN MARRIED 64 YEARS. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Alford of Castleton Still Active. He is Running Farm and Milk Route at Age 87--She is 82 and Does Own Housework--Were Married at Castleton September 5, 1843--Have Lived There 70 Years. The statement to the effect that Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Bateman of Pine street have probably been married longer than any other couple in the state, they celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary Wednesday, has brought a contradiction from Castleton. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Alford, who reside on South street in that town, have been married 64 years and they believe that they hold the state record. They were married by Rev. Joseph Steele, pastor of the Congregational church, September 5, 1843. Mr. Alford will be 88 years old in August and Mrs. Alford will be 83 in November. Seventy years ago the 7th of this month they came to Castleton and have passed the greater part part of the time since then in that town. They both enjoy good health, Mrs. Alford being able to do her own housework and Mr. Alford running a small farm and milk route, being seen on his daily rounds every morning during the winter.
