    2. Source, Rutland, Vt. Daily Herald--Tues. Oct. 22, 1918. RUTLAND, Vt. LIVING IN BARRACKS BUILT BY THE ENEMY Mrs. T. C. Towers of North Main street has received a letter from her brother, Private Dewey Houston, of the 102d ambulance company, A.E.F., France, who is living in barracks built by the Germans. The letter is in part as follows : "Just a few lines to let you know I am well and enjoying life, after the big American victory of September 12, it certainly was great and we hardly lost a man. I am now living in barracks which the Germans built and held for four years. " The weather is fine but looks like winter most of the time, I guess the Germans realize the American army is over here now as we are certainly showing them something . " Well it is just a year since we left the states, but it doesn't seem that long as we have put in eight months at the front, and you bet the time goes fast while there. I expected to be in the states this Christmas, but it does not look that way at present. "
