Cassie Gardner of Burlington passed Sunday in town with his mother, Mrs. Lois Gardner. Rev. H. S. Davis of Rutland will preach in the Baptist church next Sunday. A covenant meeting was held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the vestry. Will Kelley has bought Enos Cook's farm and taken possession. Mrs. Kelley is sick. C. B. Vail and son Hallie are in town, but will leave soon for their new home in Worcester, Mass. The Good Templars have leased M. E. Vail's hall over D. Leffingwell's store, and will hold their meetings there. Miss Minnie Bethel is teaching in Wells. The carpenters begun work on R.A. Woodward's house Monday. Saturday morning, as Silas Shumway was coming to the mill with a load of logs, and just as he reached the center of the bridge near A. Barker's it fell and threw wagon, horses and himself into the deep water 12 to 15 feet below. D. S. Carpenter, returning from Poultney, saw the accident and with several others hastened to his assistance. The harnesses were cut and the horses released, though one was nearly drowned. Mr. Shumway's arm was slightly cut and he was badly bruised, but no bones broken.
