From The Chronicle, Barton, Vermont, Feb. 25, 2004 OBITUARIES Elinor D. Huckabone Elinor D. Huckabone, 90, of North Troy, Vermont, died in Newport, Vermont, following a long illness. Mrs. Huckabone was born in Winchester, Ontario, Canada, on July 19, 1913, the daughter of Percy and Vivian 'Earl' Durant. She married Arthur Huckabone in 1950. He predeceased her in 1975. She worked for Bell Telephone of Canada, the City of Ottawa Tourist Bureau, and the Department of External Affairs of the Federal Government in Ottawa before coming to Vermont. She worked for Starr's Transportation and Cepro of South Troy, Vermont from 1975 to 1982. She epitomized the word volunteer, working for a number of different organizations for over 25 years, including the Newport Chamber of Commerce, Troy town clerk's office, Troy Elementary School, Rand Memorial Library, North Troy village clerk's office, and Missisquoi Valley Historical Society. She was a friendly voice, a kind smile, and a very knowledgeable person in any endeavor she undertook. In her last years she enjoyed her weekly trips to Newport to have her hair done and go to lunch at the East Side Restaurant. She is survived by several relatives in Ontario and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembers by many area friends. Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
