From News - The Waterbury Record, January 26, 1897 (MIDDLESEX) Frankie Stewart was at home from Barre last Thursday. Bart Casey spent last Thursday with his family in Moretown. Plin Clark of Moretown was in town last Thursday selling fresh fish. Ethel Keith of Barre visited at Curtis Stewart's and Ira Johnson's last Thursday. Curtis Stewart and wife visited relatives in Montpelier and East Montpelier last Sunday. Constable Herbert took Theodore Hainick's place on the section two days last week because of illness. The case between George White and John Smith was settled one day last week by Mr. Smith paying about eight dollars. A reading club was formed at the Center recently and some of the members gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nichols last Saturday evening. U.H. Hammond was seen on the streets last Friday for the first time since he met with the accident of falling off the load of corn stalks about three weeks ago. The Ladies' Aid Society held a sociable at Lucian White's last Wednesday afternoon and evening. There was a social crowd present and a good time enjoyed by all. There was quite a gathering at the home of Bert Daniels last Wednesday evening to participate in playing that celebrated game whist. Ten tables of good players were filled. While the scholars of District No. 4 were interested in a squabbling match one day last week, Stella Long was pushed against the corner of a desk hurting her lip quite badly. Daily papers are once more being sold here in town, Ernest Herrick is selling the Burlington News and Harold Ward is selling the N.Y., Daily World, Springfield Union, and N.Y., Sunday World. Calvin Barnes left his horse standing in front of the post office while he went inside on some business last Friday night, but when he was ready to go home no horse was to be seen, he immediately got the livery man Hudson and they soon found the horse at P.H.
