Article: Things That Happened Forty Years Ago. Taken from Journal of May 23, 1885. E. C. Ripley has purchased Dr. Hibbard's lot on Bentley avenue, and will some time erect a residence thereon. Ed. is sensible ; he means to have the cage ready before he secures the bird. Griffith & Nathaniel have leased the John L. Jones slate quarry, and are already working it. They have also secured the control of the slate rock on the Barker farm, which with their old quarry, gives them more territory covered with good slate than any concern in this State or the State of New York. We are pleased to note their prosperous condition. The trustees of Troy Conference Academy, through J. H. Guild, M. D., Rupert, Vt., have purchased a spring located in the purple quarry, Hampton, N. Y., from which flows as pure water as was ever known. The water comes through a two-inch hole bored in the quarry, from twenty-five to forty feet in the solid rock. It is intended to supply the academy with water before long. Increase of population. On Tuesday, May 12, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Seth Roberts, Saturday,May 16, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. S.
