    2. Source, Rutland Vt.Herald--Wed. Jan. 7, 1891. William W. Pierce, one of Londonderry's most prominent citizens, died recently after a short illness. He was a son of Rev. S. Pierce and was born on the farm on which his brother Josiah now lives. He joined the Fourth Vermont Infantry when it was mustered into service, September 2, 1861. He re-enlisted in 1863 and served to the end of the war. He was wounded at Fredericksburg and taken prisoner at Petersburg. He languished in southern prisons for nearly seven months and during that time lay unconscious three weeks from yellow fever. In 1866 he returned home and married Miss Lizzie A. Stone and has since resided in that town.
