Bixby Article Title: Rutland Daily Herald Article Date: January 8 1885 Article Description: Obituary of L.R.Morgan Article Text: Subject: Morgan, Rutland Rutland Herald--Jan.8,1885 DEATH OF A RUTLAND MAN IN MISSOURI L.R.Morgan died in Harrisonville,Cass county, Mo., recently,after a short illness, of hemorrhage of the lungs,aged 43 years, nine months and 18 days. He leaves a widow and six children to mourn his death.He was the only son of the late E.H.Morgan of Whipple Hollow, and was a grandson of the late Lensey Round, Sr. of Clarendon. He was a member of the 1st Vermont cavalry during the late war,and was wounded at Gettysburg, thereby losing the use of his arm,but continued his service in the veteran corps to the close of war.The few remaining members will grieve to hear of his sudden death.He was not inactive in keeping up the old campfires stories, being vice-commander of the G.A.R. encampment at Harrisonville. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Ellis of Rutland called on relatives recently. Mrs.L.S.Kintner and daughter, Miss Valoise Kintner, motored to Boston yesterday, where Miss Kintner is a student at Emerson School of Oratory. Their guest, Mrs. T. L. Griggs , of Winter Park, Fla., who has been spending several weeks here, accompanied them. Mr. and Mrs. Kitchell of New York, who have been spending the summer at their cottage at Lake St. Catherine, returned Saturday to their home. Master Laurence Benedict of Rutland spent the week-end in East Poultney with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Parro. Miss Vera Woodruff went yesterday to Canton,N.Y., where she attends St. Lawrence College. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Humphrey of Granville and Mrs. Elizabeth H. Ellis and daughter, Salome Ellis, of Whitehall spent Sunday with Mrs. Mary Humphrey. (Mary Humphrey was my g-grandmother. Evan was her son and Elizabeth was her daughter) Mr. and Mrs. David Pereault of Rutland were week-end guests of Mrs. Pereault's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Livingston. Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Warren and daughter, Miss Helen Warren , have returned from Boston, were they spent a week. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Woods, spent Sunday in Rutland. Miss Ceidiwen Parry was a Granville visitor on Saturday. The Odd Fellows will have a degree to work this evening. All members should be present and Tuesday night District meeting No.9 will be held with Netis Lodge, Grand offices will be present and Granville Mettowee lodge will work the first degree. A banquet will follow. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Briggs of Schenectady spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Miss Huldah Belden, daughter of D. S. Belden, is to teach this summer in the Temple district. At a society meeting Monday evening, it was voted to offer Rev. Mr. Vincent, who recently preached here as a candidate, $550 and free use of the parsonage and grounds. Farmers are busy plowing and sowing and planting, and are pleased to see their stock getting good feed in the pastures. This spring is phenomenal for it's early feed. Word has been received here that E. L. Tuttle and her daughter, Mrs.Charles J.Powers, arrived yesterday afternoon from Garden City, Kansas, where Mrs. Tuttle has been visiting her daughter during the winter. D. F. Waite, trainmaster, and D. B. Fales, train dispatcher of the Delaware and Hudson road, have gone on a five weeks' pleasure trip to the Pacific coast. Article Text: DEATHS DYER--In Hampton, N.Y., on the the 13th inst., Julia, daughter of Samuel Edward and Julia A. Dyer, aged 17 years. Also, at the same place, on the 15th inst., of Bilious Colic, Samuel Edward Dyer, son of the late Edward Dyer, Esq.,of Rutland, aged 49 years. The funeral services were held in the Congregational Church in Fairhaven, on Tuesday, and father and daughter were laid in the same grave, in the beautiful new cemetery in that place. few men depart this life leaving a larger circle of sorrowing friends and fewer enemies than Mr. Dyer. In him the unfortunate and afflicted found an unostentatious sympathizer.
