    2. Source, Rutland Vt.Daily Herald--Sat.June 26, 1915. RUTLAND, Vt. WOMAN DRINKS IODINE BUT WILL LIVE. Mrs. Frank Martin Takes the Poison in Dark, Husband says by Mistake. Either in an attempt at suicide or by mistake, Mrs. Frank Martin of No. 75 Travers place drank the greater part of an ounce of iodine at 10:45 o'clock last night and but for the prompt action of neighbors and Dr. W. G. Hodsdon, who was summoned by Mr. Martin, the result might have been fatal. Mrs. Martin was given an emetic and it is supposed a majority of the poison was expelled from her stomach. Mr. Martin, a mason by trade, claimed last night the entire affair was an accident. MR. MARTIN SAYS IT WAS MISTAKE. According to Mr. Martin, his wife, who is about 30 years, has been having trouble with her teeth and last night in the dark she went to the cupboard containing several bottles of medicine and supposed she reached for a small bottle of Sloan's liniment and this she tipped into her mouth, expecting to rub some of the fluid on her gums. He says Mrs. Martin swallowed some of the poison by mistake. STATEMENTS CONFLICT . But little is known of Mr. and Mrs. Martin. The people living in the house said he was a carpenter, who had been working every day since he had resided on the street, about four weeks. Mr. Martin says he is a stone mason and has not worked since he came to this city from Troy, N.Y., four weeks ago. MRS. LORETTE'S STATEMENT. Mrs. Lorette, who owns the house and lives down stairs, said last night she never would have rented the house to Mr.and Mrs. Martin had she known the woman's violent temper, but she refused to make any statement concerning the affair on the second floor. Dr. Hodsdon refused last night to discuss the case beyond admitting he had received such a call.

    2. Source, Rutland, Vt. Daily Herald--Fri.Sept.23, 1932. IRA, Vt. TINY BOY, SEEKING DADDY, KILLED BY MOTORCAR IN IRA. Edward Stomper, 4, Hurled to Death as he crosses Gateway Turnpike. 5 YEAR-OLD SISTER WITNESSES TRAGEDY. Robert J. Smith of Ludlow, Driver, Says Guardrail Obscured View. Edward Stomper, four-year-old-son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Stomper of Ira (Vt), was almost instantly killed when he ran into the path of a car driven by Robert J. Smith of Ludlow (Vt) near the boy's home on the Gateway road, at about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The driver was not held. Motor Vehicle Inspector Ray C. Smith of this city investigated. LOOKING FOR DADDY. The little boy, hand-in-hand with his five-year- old sister, Mary, was crossing the concrete road from his grandmother's house to his own home. Their mother was away working and they were going home to see if their father had returned from an out-of-town trip. They stood by the side of road for a moment to see if any cars were coming, and then darted onto the concrete. The girl apparently saw Smith's car and stopped, but the boy continued. HURLED TO DEATH. Smith said his view was obscured by a guardrail and he did not see the children until his car was almost upon them. He swerved the front of his vehicle to avoid striking the boy, but the rear mudguard struck him in the chest, hurling him a dozen or more feet. The little girl screamed and ran to her brother who was lying on the grass beside the road, bleeding and unconscious. VAIN RACE FOR DOCTOR. W. F. Byrne of West Rutland (Vt) was driving west a short distance behind Smith, and while he did not actually see the accident, he arrived an instant later. He took the child into his car and rushed him to the office of Dr. C.B. Ross in West Rutland. The little boy was dead when he reached the doctor's office. The body was taken to the Mullen undertaking rooms in West Rutland and will be taken to the parents' home today. The boy is survived by his parents and sister.Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
