    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Voth, Koehn, Fout, Vot Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CBVBAEB/43.4.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I'm not sure but I believe these Voths are the ones that many seem to get confused with my family. I've had several people in the past contact me regarding them in the G-Ma database. But I see that my family has been added as well. The birth dates for the children (Anna 1863, Heinrich 1867, Benjamin 1971 & Abraham 1973) all come from a handwritten journal that Andreas had started prior to immigration. Anna & Benjamin died of smallpox en-route. Hence they started on one ship (which I've lost the name of that had a collision soon after embarking) and ended up on the quarantine ship. I do not know what ship they ended up getting to America on. One question I have always had regarding this family is why they didn't settle in Kansas or South Dakota like the rest of the immigrants. They ended up in Sharon Twp, Johnson Co.,Iowa which was settled by Mennonites from Pennsylvania in the 1840's. I know that much of the financial help to migrate the Mennonites from Russia was from the Pennsylvanian Mennonites. I do know that only one son married another Mennonite, who most like was related to Helena as her name was Susie Koehn. I have a picture of her brother (no name on it) and it was taken in Moundridge, KS. I've always made the assumption that Andreas' father's name was Peter as Andreas' middle name was Pedersohn. Helena's father was Benjamin Koehn. From some insurance applications I know that Andrea's father died at the age of 50 prior to 1888 from an accident with his axe and that his mother is still living in 1888. As for Helena's parents, her father too had passed away prior to 1888 and her mother is still living in 1888 and would have been born in abt 1813. I have other details regarding their siblings but no names, from these applications. One interestingly is he had a brother who died at the age of 30 in a war. At some point after the 1880 census the name changed from Voth to Fout. And they moved away from the Mennonite settlement in southern Johnson Co. to being in Iowa City by 1895. In 1880 they are in Sharon twp, Johnson Co. Andreas is called Andrew and the name is spellt Vot. Heinrich is Henry and age 12, Abraham is 7. There are two more children Malinda and Eli. My great-grandmother Caroline will come along in 1884. Abraham married Susie Koehn (his second wife) in 1897. She was born 1872. I found a Susannah Kane in 1880 living in Wilson, Marion, Kansas age 8... perfect age. Don't know if it's her for sure though. Don't know if anyone can make heads or tails of all that :-)!
