    1. [VIRGINIA] Brick Wall Crumbling but George N. Gregory probably born in VA not TN
    2. A. Land Harris
    3. Needing to locate George N. Gregory, merchant, Methodist Minister, born in VA in 1802, moved to NC before 1831. His daughter, Mary Jane Wilson, is my great great grandmother, who was born 1932 in NC. I do not know his wife's name nor his ancestors nor siblings. I used to think his birthplace was TN because of the NC 1880 census. I have, since, come upon conflicting info. In the 1880 census Mary Jane Gregory Wilson said her father, Rev. George N. Gregory, was born in TN. BUTTTTTTT: New information: (with the help of the lists) In 1831 George N. Gregory, "grandfather" to Mary Jane and Rev. N. H. D. Wilson's son, was in NC serving as a Methodist Minister. In the 1850 George N. Gregory, himself, says he was born in Va., and in the 1880 the George H. Gregory, lawyer, with the right dates and age to be the George H. in the 1850 Census also says his father was born in Va. In 1850 James H. Tyler, 29 years old, and Rebecca L. Tyler, twenty years old, were living with George N. Gregory and his children...no wife noted. In 1880 Rebecca Tyler, widow, 49 years old, was living with Mary Jane Gregory Wilson and her husband Rev N. H. D. Wilson. 1850 Census: 1850/NC/Beaufort Co/Washington Twp/p. 336/M432-620 23 July 1850/Line 3/4-4 George N. Gregory/Age 48/Male/Merchant/RE $4000/VA (I know it says Va but in 1880 his daughter said) TN George H. Gregory/Age 14/Male/NC/Attend School Mary J. Gregory/Age 18/Female/NC Virginia M. Gregory/Age 9/Female/NC/Attend School James H. Tyler/Age 29/Male/RE $2000/NC Rebecca L. Tyler/Age 20/Female/NC SOOOOOOOO. Perhaps the "TN" in the 1880 census is WRONG and her father was really born in VA. Probable associated family names are Maynard, Nestor, Tyler & Hardy. Would deeply appreciate everyone putting back on their thinking caps and inserting the new information of his birthplace and see what we come up with. Thanks for looking, Land H. > > > "A.
