Western Albemarle Co. (RT 810, 15 miles from Charlottesville, VA) to see the area where my g.g. grandfather Lee Becks was born. His parents were Humphrey Becks and Mary Golden. Lee was born in 1862. He married Dora Ann Holmes. In Madison, VA, they had Sid, Jones "Junie", Savoy, Beulah (Bullock), Annie Betty (Strother), Mary Lee, Sam, and Sadie Nora (Fry). They lived in the Wolftown/Shelby area of Madison and were members of Rock Hall (Rock Hill) Baptist Church. I was also wondering about the Black community there in Brown's Cove once upon a time. I visited Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, founded in 1879 and am wondering how I might find records there to see if the Becks' were members. I'd like some more info about Brown's Cove, any plantations or sizable farms in the area? And any information on the Becks and Golden families of Albemarle, Greene, and Rockingham that may be related to me. It was a great trip waaaay up in the mountains. We took my 92 year old G.
