Consider that during that time Virginia encompassed VA, WV and the southern half of Ohio... Therefore the likelihood exists, that his father might have received land in lieu of cash for service in the Rev. that promted his move as many others... Look to the pensioners lists under the name SMITH...:-)> Perhaps the DAR has a land allocation list for those fellows...
