I am searching for relatives. I am black, but that doesn't matter since we're all related somehow. My G-G-Grandfather is Abraham (Abe) Terry b. 1870 in Virginia. In 1920, he lived on a farm owned by whites in Cave Springs, Roanoke (farm 277-281). He had five children - Robert b. 1900, Joseph b. 1904, Edward b. 1906, Gertrude b. 1910 and Fred b. 1915. The first three children were from a marriage to Julia (Satterfield?). The last two children were from Daisy, who died in 1918 from burns suffered during a fire. Joseph, the second eldest, also married a Julia and died in W.V. in 1973 possibly. Abe b. 1870 had a sister named Lucy and Melvinnie or Melvina, and possibly some other siblings but the historian in the family only remembers the two. The historian went to the farm Abe lived on and played with two little white girls. Here is the tricky part. I'm assuming that a Mat. Terry b. 1835 and a Gracie Ann Terry b. 1840 (mulatto) in Little River Township, Floyd VA are Abe, Melvinnie and Lucy's (Lucinda) parents. I am not sure if they live on a farm or not but the 1870 and 1880 census stated they lived on 127-125. The children were Martha, Agnes, Lucinda, Melli (sp?), Melvina, Abram, Ann and Frances. There is much more to this story as there are other Terry's alive and well today. We are planning a trip to VA to search library files to possibly locate the areas where the above ancestors lived. Any information on these farms or the family is appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
